A !!!! comprehensive in West London with the SMILE system for maths and a school that only expected its students to get CSE's and not try for UNI and for the girls to work in the local supermarket and for the boys to go out to work from the age of 16.5 some people make it some don't, not everyone is equal so don't be blinded by propaganda.

I left school and was told "get a trade" so did an apprenticeship to be a sparks but I made sure I had enough money for my kids education and took it a step further.

Could you just refresh our memories as to who introduced and championed that approach to secondary education?

You tell me, it could have been better but it hardened me up and made me work hard for my family. I would have loved to have gone to UNI as it was something to reach for but the system in England has failed.

You are making my case for me.

This policy will send almost every working class child into the tender arms of Tescos.

If it is dog eat dog out there, and I almost agree that it is, let us at least give the mongrels a fighting chance

!!!!!! is happening in this country that we can even spend a nanosecond debating whether the working classes are worthy of higher education?

If you insist. It was the... (wait for it).... Labour Party.

Comprehensive (sic) education - the biggest confidence trick ever played on the working by the political class.

Really? some people invested in education or worked hard and made something of themselves, I work therefore I am working class I come from an immigrant background so had to fight trough prejudice. Its not easy but the harder you try the further you get in life.

If its true and withe the new systems in place the poorer students will be better off then the ones from a middle class background.

I am happy in my life I have managed to place my children on a sure footing (I hope) and hopefully they will be able to pay back in to the system via taxes to help others.

Only as long as they don't earn a decent wage.

The minute they are even half way successful they are fuc ked.

As to prejudice, that which doesn't kill us rarely makes us stronger.

The answer to your circumstances is not more of the same.

It is entitlement based on merit, where the brightest of my (and your) class don't have to fight tooth and nail to escape

Well, I went to a Comprehensive and got into Oxford.

My old man went to a Comprehensive and has a PhD.
