Rant about ebay..

Oh tell 'em to bog off.
If they didn't like the P&P charges, before they've even received the item and known what the P&P charges are, they shouldn't be using eBay!
Tell 'em if they don't like it, they're more than welcome to collect the item's to save them the postage costs!
I'm both a seller and a buyer and I know roughly what items will cost to post. If I was going to grumble about postage costs beforehand, then I wouldn't bloody bid on whatever it was!
85p mark up, oh my word, send in the fraud squad. That's is it IS an 85p mark up.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I'd rather pay the company who is doing a lot of my work for me to sell my item than necessarily support someone who is prepared to rip eBay off.
Postage online is generally coming down, many sites make pricing inclusive or set fixed prices; Amazon recently introduced a free delivery service, so it's not the case that overcharging is all that common any more either.

This is getting silly and personal.
Op, as you have found out postage charges are an emotive subject.
At the end of the day, you can charge what you like (unless it's a capped of free category).
There are buyers who look at the 'total' price and accept that is the cost, there are those who dont. But if your buyer doesn't like it they will reflect it in your stars. Stars have impacts in lots of ways including how visible your item is in 'best match'. They have impact on your account standing and damaging them may result in eventually not being able to sell at all.
As I see it, it is weighing up how much you want to sell your items in the future versus the way you estimate postage costs.
As you rightly said, this post was a rant, not for advice. But would you rant when your account (and everyone else in your household) has their account closed, or will you want advice.0 -

It really truly wouldnt matter. I would just not use ebay any more. My life would carry on as normal in all other aspects.:)0 -
If you think this thread is getting childish, this is the email conversation I have been having with the seller..
Hi
I was just wondering why is the postage so expensive. Is this so you do not have to pay ebay so much or are you going to refund what you save on postage.
Thanks
No I am not going to refund anything - the postage is an estimate of what I think it might be and it could be more or less than that and I don't suppose that you would be willing to pay more if it is more?. If you do not like the full price (i.e. postage + cost of item) then I suggest that you do not bid.
Thanks for that will bid accordingly
It is probably better that you don't bid as I am not sure I liked the sarcastic tone in your first email.
I am not a charity, I am selling some items for my daughter - there is no way I would have ever queried the postage price of an item - it is easy to work out the full price of the item by adding together the postage plus the item cost. It is very straightforward and simple and sending rude emails is hardly going to make me refund you some money had you bought the item.
I am sorry if i offended you, I did not mean to be rude i was simply asking a question which i admit i could have phrased better. Seeing as you obviously have experience of selling on ebay i am sorry for questioning your pricing
You did not offend me I am just a little surprised that you would question the postage on a 99p item. It might be better to try Freecycle if you want free items
Thanks i had never heard of that site i will have a look the kids could do with some presents. Is that the site that you get most of what you sell.
Yeah that's the one I get everything from there and then sell it for 99p. I make a fortune on the postage though ! I am going to Barbados on the profits soon
Nice answer i have no come back so you win. Thanks for the entertainment though.
Regards
I know I sound like a complete !!!!! ! I must have been pretty annoyed!

I'm with CIPFA, and I have colleagues who are CIPFA, ICAI, ICAS, AAT and ACCA. They are all equally competent.
That was a stupid and petty comment, from someone who is coming across as a stupid and petty person.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -
