oh please if your gonna talk like that please dont respond i have costs that im not willing to say on here but i do not have that amount to live on

Well you can't expect people to give you any help if you are not giving them a full picture.

You are getting all you are entitled to unless you think your condition has worsened, in which case you could ask for your DLA to be looked at again as Daisy said. There is a chance however that it could work against you.

Only you can know where you can make cuts but there is something far wrong if you can't afford to feed yourself on £160 and maybe these 'other things' need looked at.

You could also ditch your broadband.

Regarding the prepayment certificate for prescriptions, you don't need to pay that by direct debit.

You can just pay it as and when you need it by cheque or credit/debit card. It really does make for a huge saving, especially if you're talking about £80 a month like the OP

Okay so you get IB long term = £91.40 per week
DLA low rate care = £18.95 per week
DLA high rate Mobility = £49.85 per week
    Per week you get £160.20

Does your daughter work or claim benefits? Does your daughter live with you?

    Is this not correct?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • .....my higher rate moblty is for a car that i need to get about as i cannot walk far and my daughter drives me about when i cannot do it ....

I missed that one..... £50pw of money the OP says she needs to live on .... and she has a mobility car!

What on earth is this country coming to?
When you went bankrupt, the examiner dealing with your case would have reviewed your income and compared it to what your basic living costs were. (Just to make sure that you weren't spending more than you were receiving as benefits - undisclosed income). There would have been no Income Payment Agreement (due to being on benefits). What happened since? I do hope that you haven't borrowed any money or obtained credit since your bankruptcy that you are now having to pay back?

Have you not considered the use of public transport using a free bus pass given to those that are disabled? Even a taxi would be cheaper than putting petrol in the car!

I do seriously think you should be considering your options and deciding what is more important - a car or food in the fridge!!!

No, it's not correct, she uses the £50 of HRM for a car!!!!!

The mind boggles!! In need of income yet she has decided that a car is more important. What ever is wrong with public transport.?

It does sound like her daughter uses the car also - maybe it is treated as a 'free' car for use by the whole family.

AND us pensioner couples are having to live on £200pw - we use public transport - I would love to be able to have a car to use instead of waiting in bus stops in this freezing weather!!

fair enough, and sorry to hear that you haven't received sufficiently helpful responses.

without an idea of your full income and expenses/debts, the members will struggle to identify ways to increase your income and decrease your expenses.

ultimately you can double check your entitlements on an online benefit calculator, such as the turn2us website.

but if you are not entitled to any extra benefits, then realistically your only option is to reduce your living expenses and tackle any debts that are impacting you.

this is the main reason why members are seeking an idea of your income and expenses, because if the income can't be increased, then there's only the expenses left to change.

the debt free wanabee board and old style money saving boards might be your best bet to find out how to sort out any debts that are impacting on your life, and pick up the best tips to be ultra frugal.
  • Sorry some of the replies have been judgemental - if you cannot help, you shouldn't be a troll and post when you don't know the full story. Everyone's story is different and who knows when the tables may be turned.

If your daughter is having to act as your carer, could your health have deteriorated to such an extent that you may now qualify for a higher rate of DLA(Care) than the low you currently receive. You can request that the DWP look again at the claim and specify that they just consider the care component. If doing this, it may be worth getting in touch with a local welfare service to help complete the forms - there is a knack to it (as someone with experience of completing dozens such forms, with a pretty good degree of success for clients). The increase may then also put you into a position where she could claim Carer's Allowance, (provided she meets the qualifying criteria).

The National Debt Helpline may also be a good way forward with your money troubles.

    Stay strong...

This is what I suspect, but without the full story how can we help?

What worries me is that if she has been adjudged bankrupt, she may have an even bigger problem in obtaining credit when she should not have done so.

But as I said without full details - I give up!

You may find that some medication is cheaper OTC than paying £7.20 for a prescription each time. Also, one item whatever quantity is £7.20. Can you ask for GP for 2 months' supply? I did this recently - one lot of medication generally only lasts me 3 weeks.
