Missed incoming calls - Orange

The husband has just erupted in a rage and accused me of systematically ignoring his calls

Despite the volume being set at the highest setting and my hearing being fine, thank you very much, I do miss his calls at times. Today, I was rushing for the bus with the phone in my coat pocket, and yes, I missed the husband's call. Inside, no problem, it's when I'm out and about that calls get missed sometimes. The phone is not buried at the bottom of my bag, it's got its own pocket in the bag for easy access.

I am on Orange and have a Blackberry Curve. So does the husband, and I would say that he missed a fair few of my calls too, except that I mostly text him so he doesn't notice.

Are other Orange users experiencing this too ? Thank you
Keep calm and carry on

it's not oranges fault you missed the call or didnt hear it ring.

what is the actual question? do other people sometimes miss a call or not hear it? yes
  • Jayme, according to Him, 90 % if his calls go straight to answerphone. Matter of fact, I swear the phone is not ringing. Is it an Orange issue ?

  • Is the phone set to divert calls straight to answerphone? Or divert them to answerphone after only a second or two?

Sounds to me like you need to adjust the setting of your phone's 'call diverts'.

yeah that could be a network problem, possibly a low/no signal.

if it goes straight to voicemail that means the phone is off or out of network range (or some other network problem)

is your bag causing a drop in signal? like if the phone is put next to some keys or other metal? that could easily cause it to loose signal and therefore go straight to voicemail.
  • You said it's a blackberry, is it set to receive emails, updates from facebook or anything else that uses the internet?

The problem with a lot of smartphones is they're constantly accessing the internet, this if great if you have a constant 3G connection or wifi connection, but the minute you get a connection worse than 3G problems start cropping up. EDGE, GPRS, WAP or 2G are slower connections that use the same connection as voice calls, kinda like a fax machine or old dial up connections so if your phone is accessing the internet when a call comes through there's a good chance your phone is going to be engaged and go straight to voice mail.

It would also be worth phoning Orange and having the answerphone turned off (unless you specifically need it on). My mum was terrible with her mobile, she would faff around fishing it out of her suitca... errr bag then stare at it wondering who was calling and before she actually answered, bingo, you got the answering machine. Since I got her to phone them and have it removed I can usually get through now, 6 rings was just too short. :(

You can have the length of time it rings before it goes to voicemail extended to up around 30 seconds or can have it switched off - whichever is easier.

Might also be worth switching the T-Mobile signal on as then she'll have access to that network in addition to Orange - making it more likely to ring.

I've found this happening more and more often on all the networks. Ringing people a fair amount business wise the answerphone kicks in quickly and more often than I ever remember it doing. I suspect that whats happened is that the networks are at a point of being near capacity and its reaching the tipping point at peak moments occasionally. I've started sending a followup text after leaving a voice message so that people know i've tried to ring them i use a simple template saved to my phone so it only takes two button presses to send it. this way I cover the eventuality that the sevice has dropped. More often than not i get a return call from the client within two minutes.
  • I've been having the same problem with my phone, on orange. It doesn't even ring sometimes and goes straight to voicemail, I then get a text but no missed call notification. It must be that the phone loses signal sometimes but it never happened when I was on o2.

He sounds like he has anger management issues. Erupting in a rage because sometimes you miss his calls.... just LOL!!

You may be in a signal blackspot. The phone may be faulty. There may be an issue on the Orange network. Any number of reasons.
