Date of lightbulb moment: August 2008 (when i was starting to rely on pay day loans!! EEkk!)
Debts at highest: £45,000
Debt free date: 22/03/2012
Perl of Wisdom: Look at bank account daily and plan your money on spreadsheets
I had been in debt for 13 years ever since going to university, and then racked up debts for the first 4 years after finishing whilst trying to get my career going. The best thing i ever did was come on this website. I got an interest free credit card which saved me a fortune, then managed to claim back ppi which cleared the last bit of my debts. Plus all the bargains posted on here for christmas and birthday presents.
It felt so good this week going into my bank and having a meeting and asking how to save money as opposed to asking for some!

d. Your one pearl of wisdom: I had been getting more and more in debt over the 6 years preceding my LBM. I discovered ML and this website just by accident. My life changed when I started to take control over things: I totalled up my debts, made extreme use of spreadsheets and spending diaries. I record every pennies that goes into and leaves my bank account. I have a spreadsheet that records all my spending according to categories (ie food, petrol, entertainment, etc). I never buy things on the spur of the moment. I thoroughly research everything I buy even food! I have used this website for moral support for all these years, but I did it pretty much on my own without having a DF diary or subscribing to any thread until the end of 2011 and that was the one mistake I made. It would have been a lot easier on me, and given me a lot more incentive if I had.
And as my friend GreenSaints once said "the road to DF is a long and bumpy one!
