I feel so upset/angry. I think someone at work is trying to set me up. Someone at work pretty much insinuated that I've been stealing.
There are 2 problems. The first problem is the lottery. It's my job to go round with a piece of paper and get £90 out of people so that we can have a monthly draw. 1st prize is £22.50, 2nd prize is £13.50 and 3rd prize is £9. The other £45 goes towards the charity. In April, a pound was missing so Hannah told me to take a pound from the tuck shop which I did. May £2 was missing, and Shirley got the money out of the tuck shop. June, I made a conscious effort to sign my part of the document only when they'd paid their pound, and the 3 days before it was drawn I counted the money and the signitures and there was the right amount there. Yet on the day I drew the lottery, yet again we were a pound down. This time I wrote on the bottom of the sheet that we were a pound missing because I didn't really want to tell Hannah or Shirley again because they might have thought it was me taking it. It's not. I've never taken any money from them.
2nd Problem. Today, I counted out a fundraising tin, at the table with everybody around. I counted it all out and put it into bags and wrote it on a piece of paper as I went. Each bag was put in a line. The last bag I did was a bag of £1.50 in 50ps. When I finished, I got the charity tin and hung it on my arm and I picked up every single bag and carried it into the office where Chris told me to put it on the filing cabinet, which I did. On my way home from work Chris rang me and said "There are bags missing, where have you put the other bags?" I told her that I put them on the filing cabinet with all the others. Her response was "No you didn't." ... What so I'm a liar now? I told her that I picked them all up together and put them on there. Where else could they be? Apparently they've looked everywhere for them, even in my box (pigeon hole type thing). She even got Liz to confirm that the 3 bags that are missing aren't there. She then asked who I was sat next to and I told her Hannah and D, and she said that she would talk to them about it tomorrow.
Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion, but I feel like they're accusing me of stealing. What do I do? What are my rights? I have no idea. What happens if someones trying to set me up? I feel so angry. If someone is trying to set me up then I won't let them. I'm going to keep my bag in the office, just incase they try and plant anything on me (god I sound so paranoid) and then someone will be in the office at all times so they can see if I go in there to get anything from my bag/put anything in. I'm not having it. I am not a theif.
Hi Fredula,
I would say when handling cash for anything it should be dual controlled so that there is no room for this type of descrepency. Two people both count it and check it in to a safe place. Once its handed over to the manager and the number of bags verified there is no recourse for you. As someone mentioned check out the cash handling procedures and make sure you stick to them. If there aren't any then there should be some agreed.
Hope it is all rectified soon.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
Thanks for all the support guys. I was worrying about posting about it on here, but you've all been great! The lady apologised to me the next morning and said she'd found the bags. I told her I didn't particularly appreciate the way in which she spoke to me, and then I went off and had a little cry as I'd been worrying about it all night.
However, great news! Car insurance renewal time! I shopped around and whereas I would usually pay £800 then phone up and add on my alloys for £95, I went on moneysupermarket.com, added my retired dad as an additional driver and alloy wheels, and the 2 cheapest quotes were with people I hadn't heard of, so I went with the third cheapest which was admiral and only spent £616Score!
