Anyone got any ideas how to rein in the oh? I do a spreadsheet of income and outgoings and next monday we are only going to be bout £20 in the black and thats not taking into account if we need things in the next 9 days, he has had 3 days off work this fortnight, one out of choice and 2 through illness, he whinged last night cos I wasn't planning on having a takeaway, had a kfc today and then wants to go and watch my sister sing in a pub tonight. He seems to think that as he works 6 days a week he should be able to have these things, should have said he has to have proper names snacks chocolate bars and crisps for his bate, has a crate of lager a week, has a can and bottle of shop brand red bull everyday and smokes so he has quite enough luxuries if you ask me. The reason it bothers me so much is that he totalled his car due to the ice in the winter, I am now borrowing my grandmas car so he can use mine so we need to buy a car and have no money for it. Sorry rant over but any ideas??

branded snacks - no problem let him have it, just less. ie you plan £2 to spend on chocolate. keep to plan, if you also give yourself a lan and have cheap versions, i bet when hes done with his he will eat yours ;-)

Do you have bm/habs - can you check weekly/monthly? they have branded stuff at lot cheaper prices. Ie my o/h has to have a certain biscuit which normally cost £1.50, i can get it for 33p from other stores and branded crisps at 10p per pack 9only certain flavours)

Beer - can you get it on offer 2 crates for discount (keep eye on supermarket deals) then hide a case ;-)

Get himvolved with saving, trying to find bargins etc. The above isn't a fix solution, but with o/h its a good point to start to rein them in. Start little.. ive had big sucess this way (my o/h use to blow £60 a day) things lot better now, did it like this so no arguments or upsets.

For takeaways, put price limit on too. Ok we can treat ourselfs today but can only affoard to spend £... Then your not being mean, your meeting half way. Then you can reduce amount of takeaways etc. Or maybe if we have takeaway tonight we can only have beans and toat tomorrow night (only example but cheap tea) spend somewhere cut back elsewhere.

Going the pub - try go out latter... still get to go out when athmosphere is better. Spend less time there, so less money. And less likely to be as drunk so no draft shots etc

Start like this, or your own version. then you can move on to bigger cuts etc

    Hello!

I haven't posted for a while - I've been on holiday, not very MSE but great fun!

I won £51 on bingo this weekend so i'm very pleased with that - will update signature when the money arrives in my account.

Apart from that nothing really to report apart from had a very cheap weekend and have managed to accure virtual change and keep feeding the change pot.

  • Hello!

What a weekend! My internet dongle just decided to stop working,so ive had to shell out to buy a new one :( We did a car boot yesterday, gorgeous sunshine but a very cold wind! We made £56,which was fab as we really did only have tat and a few dvds. Ive got another £5 to be paid from quidco so i will add that next week. My overdraft was £130 less than expected! woop! Ive found out that i will on a salary when i get paid which is fab as it will help me budget better than i am now.

I rang amazon and got nowhere - all they will say is that my account is linked to a suspended one but i dont know how or why so i asked them to prove it and they said no so i got huffy with them. ebay it is then....!

im off to ebay everything i tired to list yesterday :D

  • Well thats the free bingo done on sing and costa! Only ended up making about £40 in the end on that!

Does anyone use other types? Have a day off work today and could do with a referral. PM me if you like!
  • emmad5689 Maybe suggesting you both have x amount of spending money to spend as you like each week but once that it is gone, it is gone?
me & oh have been doing this for 5 years and it works beautifully - we have a spreadsheet to work out income and all bills and expenses , both have wages paid in to joint account where all the direct debits and standing orders go out of, whatever is left is divided in two and transferred to our own accounts to spend on what we like . This helps to keep us both in check :D
