Just shows you what you can save on shopping. I decided to try Mrs S' instead of Mr T for the fortnightly shop. I spent a bit of time on supermarket compare and made a list, chosing - where I could the Basic brand. I've just worked out the difference - took a bit of doing but I thought I'd share it with you all.

My ordinary shop would have cost £179
The shop just changes to Basic brands came to £157
Then I used a £12 off voucher and BOGOF's etc which brought the shop down to £135.

Thats a whopping £44 saved just by beng careful and making small changes. I'm going to taste test the Basic stuff to see it if makes much different - as most of the items are ingrediants (like tomatoes) I think I'm on to a winner.

Did an MS last week which should bring in a tenner but no confirmation yet. Will update me signature latter in the week.
    Good luck everyone.
  • ebay bits finishing tonight...some already done and rest over the next 2 hours...around £100 at the moment.
Sold ds broken xbox for £25 and someone emailed to collect it asap, he came round an hour later so thats saved me posting the blasted thing, we still have the rest of the bits to sell as this was just the actual console.

does anyone know of any shops where you can go and have a play with an ipod touch to try it out?
DS really has dream of owning an iphone but not for using as a phone. obviously an ipod touch will do more than an iphone but that is not his dream.
he knows if he gets one for his birthday it will probably be a bashed up first generation one and will not have a contract with it so will only be able to use to download apps via wi-fi and camera etc. he has had this dream for ages and really believes it will happen. he doesn't care if he gets no other present for his birthday in march. so we are thinking of asking people who are close to hin like grannys and grandads to put a little each towards it and then we should be able to afford a second hand ancient one.
I want to show him an ipod touch first though even though he says that is not what he wants.
He wants to make apps for iphones and we have found a site that helps you to make games for ipod touch and iphones but you do need to own one to test it out on.
I guess as this challenge is about making our dreams reality I want to help him find a way of learning that it is possible to find a way to do things. he doesn't care if its old and scratched and can't be used as a phone. so I think that makes it easier for us to found a cheap one that we can afford.
However we could get a better ipod touch for the same money but that is pointless spending the money if its just going to get left untouched. the thing is he doesn't want things for how much they cost but just cos of what they mean to him. sometimes buying a roll of silver foil for model making is just as important and better than things that cost a fortune. ipod has been a dream for so long though.
sorry for being waffly and off topic.
    Jo

Is there a best buy near you?

    Link...http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/

They should let him have a play and will tell him all about it and what sort of stuff he can do with one.
I only have an old ipod. I dont have a iphone but my wife did get me an ipad for christmas and they are great. Apple stuff is really well made.

If there are no best buys about try PC world they also sell them and should be able to let him have a go.

Carphone werehouse if they have them in will also show him it.

Best buy will be the best place as they have whats called tech geeks there they are paid to show you the shuff. Carphone werehouse also have theses as they own 50% of best buy uk.

    Good luck.

:D you don't miss a trick! I use the thank button as a kind of bookmark to let me know where i've got up to with reading the thread (as well as appreciating what people say!) I'm good thanks, just taken nearly an hour to catch up and read all the posts/links etc. Done nothing on the money-making front but have had a great weekend.

How are you? That's terrific news about your car money - like others say you really deserve it. And the mystery shopping sounds great, i know what you mean about the feeling guilty bit, i think i'd be like that too. Thanks for your post about motivation - pure Joprah! :D It's a great reminder about what's really important in life.
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

Thanks Halight. I have had a look and nearest is 63 miles away. we do have a pc world and a carphone warehouse so will probably go along to one this wek.
I think he finally believes us that all the iphone can do extra is the phone/text stuff which we wouldn't be paying for him to do anyway. he has seen lots of apps that say unique to iphone. however we have been investigating them and they are all available on the touch. so think he may well go for the touch after having a play with it.

  • Well done everyone so far! :T

Feel very guilty not ebaying things at mo. Had a great spell on there about 3 years ago, then I stopped, they changed some rules and I've sort of lost my confidence on there for selling.......must try and find it again. :o

Have had the DSs sorting bits and bobs out of there room, they've sorted what they think they don't need, so that's one box between them, I'll go in there in a few weeks and probably come out with several boxes more! Have loads of carboot stuff in the loft, so when the weather's improved I'm going to try and do them every couple of weeks until everything has gone!

Still haven't looked at free bingo as have been comping, got some good wins on that.

Used some Nectar points against the shop yesterday and Costa points not loads but it all helps.

Am still hoping Cashbackchief may come online and tell us something about monies owed  That would add a nice amount to the pot and probably those of others on here.

Anyway, scores on the doors so far, mainly from comp wins this month = £242.51. :)

Apols for rambling, have bored OH telling him! :o

    Good stuff!!
I would say that if he aint going to use it for phoneing and texting the the touch would be a better bet for him. Also they are loads cheeper.
