Generation, singular. My Parents didn't buy until they married in their late 20s and were both brought up in rented accomodation.

Yes you are correct, my point is we keep getting boomers looking down there noses (not all of them I will add) at us not because we are lazy and useless like they say we are, but because we haven't got it as easy as they did.

I do believe the honest boomers can see this, as my mum says 'she was married and had me and my brother at my age', but she also sees that what her an my dad did just isn't possible for me and my other half now. Hence why we have full support from both sets fo parents and none of us have been forced to move out yet.
Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

    Started a second business 03/08/2013
Officially the owner of my own business since 13/01/2012

I'm not sure all the people criticising you are boomers I certainly wouldn’t criticise you for staying at home with your parents I think a lot of boomer realise just how hard it is to buy now. But what annoys us is that a lot of people of your generation seemed to think as you posted “we couldn't just meet at 23 and buy a house with any old minimum wage job” which I can assure you wasn’t the case.

My Mum and Dad where a part-time checkout operator and security guard and they managed to buy, I will admit this may be down to local variants as I will admit Oldham does appear to be on of the cheaper places to live so probably factors into my view on this.

I do appreciate that many do see the problems us youngers ones face these days and I do thank you for actually pointing that out, the silence from many on the subject did feel like everybody agreed.

Sorry for the rant, as you may see it does rile me slightly when things are assumed about me and people my age which are unfounded.

    Don't take too much notice.

It seems many of our holier than thou posters, actually had help from their parents themselves. Not in terms of living with them for extended periods of time, but rather large deposits gifted.

People seem to forget that not everyone gets gifted deposits from parents.

Wow, I caused a bit of resentment I see. It's up to you how you choose to live your lives, but nothing beats the independence of leaving home and doing your own thing, whether that's by renting a room in a house share, renting with mates/partner, or even renting your own place.

Living at home is all very comfortable and nice, but the thought of having frantic sex with your parents in the next bedroom was enough alone to pursuaed me to move out!

What a lot of people seem to miss is that if the banks will lend you 3x your salary and houses are 4x houses are just as much out of reach as they are when the banks will lend you 4x your salary and houses are 5x. Once you have got your mortgage all things being equal its obviously harder to pay your mortgage in the second case. But then mortgage rates were in double figures for most of the 70s and 80s but have been in single figures since. I think the thing that helped people out in the 70s was not HPI but the high wage inflation..

We do appreciate the problems that the younger ones have when buying because they are the same ones that other generations had had when they were buying, excluding those stupid student loans.

Haha, have only ever done it once in a car, found it really tricky to get in a decent position (never mind the gearstick hazards) although it was in a Renault Clio!
