Can I get BB without getting line rental

I,m looking at getting a Sky unlimited package but you have to have a phone line.

I hardly every use a phone and my mobile has on average 560mins free every month!!

So it seems crazy to pay £11pm for liine rental inclusive of everning and weekends calls.

But I would like to have BB in my new place.

I,ve looked at the 3G packages but they dont make any sense and would cost more in the long run.

What can I do?

Bite the bullet and pay for a phone line. You do need it because without one you won't get ADSL.

Alternately see if VM cable is available although the saving by not taking a phone line on that is trivial.
  • But ask what are we paying a line rental for??

I,ve got 600mins of mobile call usage. That is paid for.
Skype unlimited UK calls. That is pair for.

I,ve got more talk time than Oprah Winfrey.

I dont need another evening and weekend package.

The providers are trying to sell me BB and IMO. They should waiver the phone line charge if or half it if they want my business.

I'm not going to get involved in a debate over the rights and wrongs of this. I'll just stick to the facts which are no phone line = no ADSL.

If you dont want Internet via cable or BT line then a dongle or tether a mobile or satellite are your only other options .

But ask what are we paying a line rental for

You pay the line rental believe it or not to rent BTs telephone line a they won't give it away free .
No onus on the user of that line to do anything with it .
You could in effect not pay BT line rental by taking out one of the packages that include line rental as part of the deal .

also having a fixed phone line increases your credit rating, so thats a plus!

yeah go for a bt package that has phoneline and broadband included, or lower your mobile phone bill by getting less minutes free and balance it out with the cost of the new landline.

You pay line rental to maintain the physical copper wire and equipment needed to enable you to have BB... you pay for BB to get a service not for the wire to bring it to your house.

If your line develops a fault then that money has to come from somewhere - it comes from line rentals. If your BB service has problems but it's not your physical line at fault then the cost of repairing the BB side comes from your BB rental costs... :)
