CTC i think you need to get your friend on her to let them read what everyone has wrote.
as been said before life is precious and one of the things that really has annoyed me is that since the death of your friends best friend the bloody government have decided that in hindsight the CSA is a waste of time and hey lets just get rid of all the debt that is owed by absent parents.
it is very sad that people feel they need to kill themselves over debt and my heart goes out to the family and other friends.Light Bulb Moment 1st January '06-£82,000

Hey triker, big hugs to you. :grouphug:
I know how you must be feeling. I lost one of my best friends when I was younger because of debt. A long story that I'd rather not go in to but just wanted to say I'm thinking of you.

Cooltrikerchick, livinginhope, ClaireDC, southernscouser and any others who find themselves in this situation (who may be lurking here but not necessarily posting for whatever reason...) - huge hugs to all of you...:grouphug: I'm so sorry for your "needless" losses - if only your friends and relatives had been able to access the necessary help and not take such drastic actions which led to such tragic consequences...
Sadly, I think that this is a very real reflection on today's society. Years ago, credit was difficult to obtain (married women needed their husband's permission, etc) and any type of "owing" was frowned upon...it was shameful to buy things on "the never never". Nowadays, lending is freely available to all, irrespective of earnings (and I speak as one who was sent a platinum card by MBNA with a £25,000 limit, in spite of the fact I was a full-time student and had no regular income, and despite the fact I had sent back their offer saying "no, thank you - please DO NOT send me a card"!!!). Sadly, these companies give out their credit freely, and then impose impossible rates which cause immeasurable pressure...
I will be praying for the families of those who have lost loved ones unnecessarily in this way today...what a stupid and unnecessary waste!

My condolences. Im just wondering if debt per se is the real underlying reason why people commit suicide, maybe its just the last straw.
Despite claims to the contrary large debts and bancruptcy DO still carry a stigma for many people or at least thats the way they feel about it but they shouldn't IMO-Its only money when all's said and done.
Having said that ive been saying for some time the institutions have something to answer for in inducing people into the debt trap then treating them like dirt when they get into trouble. At the moment they dont appear to be taking a lot of notice.0 -

Couldn't agree more! Didn't use the card, by the way - cut it up and closed account immediately. However, my parents, who lived in quite a cheap area of the country (we are talking about 15 years ago) did look in their local paper and discover that I could have bought any one of 17 houses/flats which were for sale that week and which fell under that price bracket, if I'd been inclined to...!! Can you imagine me walking into the Estate Agents..."do you take Mastercard?"!
Re: tr@cker's comments, I'm sure that you are right and debt is the last straw for many, but the depression caused by the debt (and remember, most of us here felt we were the only ones in our situation until we found this board and discovered that there are thousands of people out there in the same situation...) can quickly cloud judgement when thinking about everything else, and that is when the whole outlook seems so bleak, that it seems there is no way out and no other option to recover from the situation...

Just reading these posts and feeling so sad and sorry for those people who have lost loved ones due to suicide, it's oh so pointless.

Personaly I would take the shame and go bankrupt.
But maybe there were many other problems .
Hi guys.
My sympathy to all who are feeling this loss and especially to you Trikerchick. It's awful when numbers can damage lives like this. I'm sure Martin and all of us, understand the pressure debt puts us under and the awful effects it has.
Laterally thinking  , maybe it's not just the victims who should hear about MSE, but also the companies that hound people out of peace of mind and leave them feeling tortured and cornered!
Celtic - I agree. There's usually a combination of things that cause suicide. With triker mentioning the CSA, that alone gives clues right there of the stress this poor man was carrying.
There are lots of warning signs, so look out for them and please get help immediately from your GP if you even consider suicide. It doesn't matter what the situation is, there's ALWAYS an alternative and many kinds of help. You will not be left to suffer. Thanks to everyone who have shared their stories.
Thinking of you all. Much love,
