  • This is indeed very sad, I lost a friend the same way.

This site is definitely a lifeline to many people, I wish it had been around before my friend felt so desperate. Thanks to Martin and to everyone who contributes.

Oh hun I'm so sorry. I have personal experience of this so if you need to talk just PM me.

I hope that being in debt will become less of a stigma with the problem becoming more widespread.

oh Triker I am so sorry to hear your sad news.I hope you manage to get through the day ok in such distressing circumstances.
I think this is why this board is so needed because to many people it really is a lifeline..Some people have noone to talk to about their debts or feel they cannot so the anonymity it provides along with the nonjudgemental attitude of most posters here mean it provides us with a safe haven..my thoughts are with you
  • I'm so sorry to read that. As Storm says, don't apologise.

  • Morning cooltrikerchick,so sorry to hear about your friend, but this is becoming more and more common now.
A few years ago,1999 I think, there was a lady in our road who overdosed herself and 3 children then started a fire, they all died,we were totally shocked,it then came about that she had run up debts of 52k and could see no way out.I remember at the time thinking how on earth was she able to get into that much debt and more importantly why didn't she tell someone?her husband knew nothing about it until the call at work to say there was an incident on the news and it was focusing on his house.
Well now I know how she was able to get so much credit,I have felt like ending it all on many occasions, but the story of this woman still haunts me,seeing how upset her husband and family were brings me back to reality and makes you realise debt is part of your life and not your life.
I think the key to stopping these horrific tales of despair is to talk about things,a problem shared and all that, but it does work.
The banks really should take a step back and think about the mental state of people in debt,by threatening to take everything the person feels they have nothing to fight for and suicide seems to be a way out.
Glad you posted this, brings it home how special and delicate life is.
