So upsetting to read something like this. I can understand how people feel there is no light at the end of a tunnel sometimes, but when it comes down to it, it's only money. Life is so much more precious. One day I might be more organised...........

My cousin hung herself last month, ages 25 (just a few months younger than me) due to having depression and debts.. it's awful that she felt she had to do this to escape what she was going through. She never let anybody (family wise) know how much she needed help/that she needed help at all.. and she never got any help from the 'organisations' who were supposed to be helping her but ended up stressing her out more and dragging things out that could have given her more of a chance. My aunty ended up having to phone benefits people up to explain that they were too late in any help they may have planned on giving her because she'd killed herself.
I suffer with depression too, but i'm lucky in that i've started to sort my money issues out before they have got me to the point of doing anything like that.. but i know there are so many people that do feel like death is the only way out of debt. This should not be happening, there should be more help for people who are struggling with things, and also less of a stigma attatched to this kind of illness/situation because a lot of people are too ashamed/proud to ask for help when they really need it because of being scared of the reaction they might get from ignorant people.

How terrible, and what a waste.
Suicide, for any reason, is always a terrible thing to feel that you have to do.
Severe depression or other mental illnessess may make people feel that it is the only way out, but money problems should never be the deciding factor (easy to say when I am not the person in that situation, of course) Talking about your problems, even indirectly by the internet, always helps even if it does not solve the problem.
I just hope that the stigma of depression and debt continue to decrease and this site is an inspiration to all that feel trapped by their situation. Keep writing in, and there is an army of people willing to help others in the same situation."To be is to do" - Socrates. "To do is to be" - Jean-Paul Sartre."Do be do be do" - Frank Sinatra. I ony joined this site a few weeks ago and athough I'm now one of the luckier ones and without debt I remember the stress of having debts, not from buying luxury products, but debts for just existing. However I find this site to be a challenge and an inspiration, where genuine people are proud to be taking the reigns of control in their lifes. I know at times its hard but keep at it. I'm proud to be a member of this board, and spread the word. my friends are now enjoying its benefits such that its our my main topic of conversation when we are together. Long may it reign Thank you all for being so supportive.0

There is no shame in going bankrupt - if your debt situation is really hopeless, then bankruptcy can be the best solution not only for the person in debt, but also for their creditors.
However, many people are unaware even of the option of bankruptcy. The television is full of adverts for companies that propose further debt as a solution and the perceived 'stigma' of debt can often frighten people from fully researching their options.
My condolences to the family of your friend CTC

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

i just wish the stigma of debt.... wasnt so great... and that the goverment....could have a have a policy to curb.... such lending.....beyond realistic means of paying it back...
