Raido on at work - is it more productive or less?

I have noise cancelling earphones (a godsend in our office designed for 4 people but with 7 in it right now!!) - they are *just* enough to blot out my seemingly DEAF colleague (he's not) who could have a conversation with someone on the other side of our site (half a mile away) without using the phone (IYSWIM). a grateful Thank you to my IT colleague who 'fixed' his phone...lolz.
I also have Winamp on my PC and 2GB USB stick full of dance/house/garage music - good for the repetitive chores on my PC.
We have radios on in the warehouses (3 different stations, for 3 different Gaffers). my favourite warehouse has R2 and I can time my jobs with Sally's Traffic reports. However, nothing annoys me more than slightly detuned radios...just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son0 -
Yes, that's all fairly obvious. I think you missed the point.
You don't have to like the particular genre, you don't have to like every single song from a particular genre, you don't have to like every joke the DJ tells.
People are free to like and dislike as the choose. Doesn't have to stop them doing their job.
For a low level job maybe. I however really need to concentrate on what I am doing. An error has potentially very serious financial consequences. Listening to some inane DJ wittering away in the back ground would drive me stark staring mad.0 -

I work in a kitchen area at the back of a retail supermarket store and about three months into the job, a radio/cd player appeared!
I would often play my own CD's during my shift to help me concentrate and now that the cd player part has broken, we tend to listen to BBC Radio, Capital FM or Gold
.
I can't work without it now as the silence feels eerie and it gives my colleagues a clue that I'm in the kitchen working hard or hardly working

You only need a PRS if you are have the radio over speakers.however, be aware that you may need to have a licence from the PRS if you are listening to music at work.
In my job people have always listened over headphones to radio or mp3 so no PRS required.
As to productivity I find mine goes up when listening most of the time but occasionally when doing something I really need to think about I have to switch it off because it's too distracting.0 -
Well I've worked in various retail and office places. My first job they had a CD they repeated 6 times or more a day and I got so sick of the songs on it, I knew what was coming next, they changed the CD every 4-5 months. We had Radio 1 on for a while, until a customer complained they heard swearing on Radio 1!
Working at a cinema I listened to music in the screens when I was cleaning them, always fun, sometimes dancing as I swept up popcorn!! We had music on once in the foyer too, I really enjoyed that, wish they had it all the time, especially during those quiet days when no one was about!
I've had music playing in an office before at the local council. I was doing a low level job brought in for a few days to help organise folders.etc Mostly involved making up folders and sticking labels on, so that was good having music.
My current work I've had it's hard to listen to music, as it mostly involves watching and listening to filmed footage, either that or on location assisting in filming it!0 -

Just a guess but I imagine they may burn to death if there is a fire or be overcome with smoke/fumes.0 -
