I think it's very cheeky of the seller to send 3 seperate invoices but post everything in one parcel. If I'd paid 3 lots of postage I'd want 3 parcels!

Email the seller and explain that by putting all items in one parcel they should automatically give the buyer some sort of discount, depending on weight etc. The only one that's got a discount here is the cheeky seller!

Have to say I agree with this. I don't mind not getting combined postage but they can have the hassle of wrapping them seperately and getting proof of postage etc!

The seller has written me a note asking that I contact her if I plan to leave negative or neutral...so what do I do?

Why would there be any need to write a note - do they expect there's a possibility anyone would want to leave negative feedback?

Any reputable seller would charge post and packing at cost.

    It is a bit suspect.

True, to a point, but remember that you have no idea what the jiffy bag / address label / bubble wrap cost them.

Yeah, but in this case it hasn't cost £10 for the jiffy bag / address label / bubble wrap, because it just couldn't.

I agree that if sent in one package whilst the weight would be increased, having to only send one package would be a substantial reduction in overall postage costs to the buyer, and that a Neut for excessive postage is fair. You should mention "excessive postage - charged £11.97, 3 items sent in one package actual £2.20"
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • I'd hold the feedback until you've emailed stressing your disappointment with the excessive p&p costs.

I must be doing it all wrong. If I've accidentally overcharged on the p&p I put some coins in the parcel with an apology.

As others have said tho, the moral is get confirmation regarding p&p discounts before buying.

As a buyer, postage and packaging costs are effectively your money that the seller spends on your behalf.

The seller has spent far less than what the buyer sent them and they have pocketed the cash.

Packaging for one item can not be more than £3.99 as that covers post and packing for one item.

Postage for 3 items was £2.20, assume packing for three items to be at worst a generous £3.99, total = £6.19

    The buyer sent £11.97

The seller has £5.78 of the buyer’s post and packing money.
  • I'm really sorry to agree with the fact that if you agreed to the postage costs in the first place then you will have to just give a positive feedback.

I often buy multiple items from one seller but before i do i always send them a quick message asking if they would be kind enough to give me a multiple purchase discount, and how much will the combined be - Always make sure you know before commiting to the purchase. If they dont reply then i dont buy - (unless i really really want the items of course).

If they really want your custom they will come to an agreement - but if you agree to pay whatever they state on their listing then that is your loss. Sorry!

no, I don't agree, some ebayers are profiting hugely from the postage costs, disguising it with you have to take into account the parcel tape, jiffy bag etc I agree but some of the prices are just greedy and ridiculous.
Obviously the thing to do is not bid on their items I know that but when you could have got a bargain, bar the huge over inflated postage costs it is so annoying to have to give them a wide berth on postage cost principal!!

It is a tricky one, with (I believe) 2 opposite answers.

There is the contractual answer - which is basically that you agreed to the p&p by bidding, and the seller has fulfilled his duty by getting the items to you. How much he has been charged to do that doesn't alter that fact.

Then there is the moral answer - charging someone £5.78 over the top on a small purchase is outrageous!

You could perhaps email the seller with a suggestion that such excessive p&p might be considered fee-avoidance by eBay. Especially as the normal £3.99 is more than 3 times the £1.27 it would actually cost to send just one item.

I would feel that as the actual postage was approx 75% extra over the cost of sending just one, you should have been charged an absolute maximum of an extra 75%.
Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.
