I was offered the course after I returned the NIP confirming I was the driver.

Yes, that's how it happens. As far as I know, the court never offers a speed awareness course.

Personally, with a clean licence, I'd take the points. If I had more to lose, I'd grit my teeth and go for the course, I guess.

In my case the course was £10 more then the fine, and being disabled retired I had a day out. Even after 35 years driving I learned something from it for my benefit, and it opened my eyes to how clueless some others on the course were when it came to simple questions asked!

20 mph on a clear straight road is ridiculous. I understand how you didn't feel like you weren't speeding. Even though some people on here are going to argue that you were speeding therefore deserve the fine. In some cars you would be driving on the break to a achieve that speed espically if you have just come down from 30. Driving below 30 can be hard in some cars - you only have to touch the gas pedal and you are doing 30. Doing 20 will seem really slow. Doing 30 in a 20 is not the same as doing 40 in 30, 60 in a 50 etc. When you are speeding at these speed you can immediately tell your going to fast. Op obviously felt they were driving at the natural speed of the road.

Speed limit is in place to protect the bridge. But I doubt the bridge will benfit directly from the money made from the fines.

Can someone also explain how driving at 30mph over the bridge will damage it?

This is exactly what I was thinking?

Nednats thanks for clarifying what I said in my original post.

Querying whether or not driving at a certain speed damages the bridge or not doesn't change the fact that the speed limit was on display as were speed camera signs and you exceeded the speed limit.

!!!!!! happens, deal with it and move on.

Try pepipoo.com to and see if they can help, but otherwise just bite the bullet and accept the points, if you took it to court they probably fine you more with costs
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Crikey, you can't see the speed camera signs in the pictures I posted? I put red circles around them.

    Please stop driving, I'm scared.
