Are o2 retentions rubbish these days?

Thats the deal I'd like o2 to provide. Their £15 a month contract (12 month contract - how long is yours?) gives just 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb internet. If they could up the minutes to 500 that would do me, or leave it at 300 mins and give free landline calls.
I'm on a sim-only one month rolling - so I only have to give 30 days notice. The difference in what I'd pay for a subsided phone, I stick in a pot and when I need or want a new phone, I use that.0 -
Well the golden rule is persist, persist, persist. After 3 calls of being polite and friendly and explaining what i use the phone for, I finally got a little bonus of free landline calls, which wasn't part of the standard package that a new customer could get. Not a lot, but kept me happy and ensured I'll be with them for another year.0

If the main thrust of this is that existing customers should get a slightly better deal than new customers, then I am all for that, but the mobile industry is absolutely nuts.
If you go to an online reseller - and there are many of them - and take out a new contract you get cashback deals, the dealer gets his kickback, all of which comes out of the network income. CPW and Phones4U exist on commission from the networks. Why they can't offer a bit of that to existing customers renewing completely defeats me.0 -
As already mentioned in the thread, customer loyalty doesnt mean a great deal now days.
If you can find a deal elsewhere that your happy with, then tell your current provider that.If they cant match in then leave. When you ask for your PAC code it normally gives them a kick up the bottom and the deals start coming out!
With so many offers on for new customers, sometimes it pays to ditch and switch.0 -
On a side note, if you're attitude towards the customer service advisors you have been dealing with was to refer to them as "drones" I am not surprised your initial efforts at a good deal were met by a brick wall.....if you treat the call centre staff with respect and don't immediately pull the loyalty card...you may get more helpful response. Just a thought.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -

but if your happy that is all that matters.............

I'm sorry to burst your even more smug bubble Lacoste boy but you're wrong. You can indeed have unlimited o2/landline calls but not if you want 500mb internet.
According to o2's own website (if you bother to look closely), for £15 SIM only 12 month contract you can have:
600 mins, unltd texts and unlimited o2/landline calls. NO INTERNET (as that costs a fiver more)
OR
300 mins, unltd texts, 500mb internet. NO FREE 02/LANDLINE CALLS.
My deal is basically the second of the above, plus free landline calls.:T0 -

Read closer, my attitude has always been polite towards the drones
But no matter how nice you are to them, if they don't wanna deal then they don't wanna deal.0
