    Yep, close the curtains.

My dog sits on the stairs and looks out through the kitchen window, he'll bark at a gnat farting on the otherside of the road if he can see out so i keep the blinds closed when I'm out.

  • Agree with the closing of the curtains suggestion - I have patio doors to the back garden and always close them when I go out so my dog can't see what's going on outside. Don't have any problems with him barking.

You can go and say you'll try this and when doing so, why not mention the fact that they disturb you at weekends! (politely of course)!

    Give him a bone ?
Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.

My girls the same - In our previous house we could get curtains to fit (really odd shaped house :p) so we used window film lets the light in but you can't see out of it. (I can't for the life of me think what it's really called :o)

ETA: I googled it - it's called window privacy film :D

Now we've moved we close the living room door - which is the only room from which she can see whats going on outside - and they have the run of the rest of the house - she still has a bit of a bark at the postie now and then - but I think thats because she likes to sleep by the door and anything heavy bonks her on the nose :rotfl:

Can you lock the dog in the kitchen for one hour and have someone come to your house to let him out into the living room at 10?

I wish I had a place in my flat from where Zara's barking would not annoy the ONE neighbour who also works nights.... - I would gladly do it to avoid problems, honestly.

I have a black german shepard, bark bark bark, until we loaned a barking collar from the dog warden, it let off a quick spray by his nose when he barked. had it for 2 weeks and it worked a treat. cheaper to rent one for a couple of weeks than buying unless you end up needing it all the time. when the collar went back i just fastened an old match box to his collar, so he thought it was still there. hey presto.

hope this will help you, if it does then next time they disturb you, it can be your turn to moan. as they are making noise in ( unsociable hours midnight - 7am ) your dog is not.
    good luck

As part of my studies for Canine Behaviour course, I went with a dog warden on one of his rounds handing out and collecting anti bark collars. The vast majority of dogs they were being used on were Collies (being a herding breed it's not surprising they are more visually stimulated than other breeds). Yes, the majority of them had stopped barking, but many hadn't - they had learnt to bark more to empty the canister, or they knew when the weren't wearing the collar, some of them may have stopped barking, but had developed other frustration relieving behaviours such as chewing, occasionally obsessive self licking, or destroying the post.......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Citronella collar had no effect on Zara and her barking - none at all.

    Neither did the ultrasonic "device".

She is just a barker :(
