Thanks!sindy wrote:You are virtually guarenteed an account with yorkshire bank....Phone them up and make an appointment with your local one and when you get there tell them you want to open a basic bank account to start with that has a debit card facility (they will give you maestro!
)....There are no credit checks either..
good luck!
No credit checks at all?? I've just looked on their website - they're not very well represented in London!! There's one branch in the city that I could go to - would need to take half a day off work but it would be worth it if I got an account!
Thanks again

No!..No credit checks !
...Specify you want the "Readycash Account" with the debit card (it's maestro) and as we all know Maestro is Mastercard and it's accepted everywhere!!
let us know how you get on please?

I've looked this up on the internet & if it's to do with "National Savings & Investments" then the account no longer exists

I had a look at the Post Office website & they have a "card account"
(tried to put in the link here using "tiny url" but it wouldnt work)
but that's no good for me because you can't pay in salaries.
Thanks anyway - hope this info is useful to someone - I'll just keep trying

Are you absolutely sure you applied for a basic bank account, i.e. no debit card (except electron or solo or something like that), no cheque book and no overdraft? Usually the only reason you are turned down is if you are not on the electoral roll or there are fraud issues. The most basic bank accounts don't involve a credit check - sometimes banks seem to think you want a more 'normal' account even if you are actually asking for a basic account. Sometimes writing to head office helps.0

I certainly intended to apply for a basic one Poppy!
Perhaps I should give nat west a call - of course I have forgotten to bring the letter to work with me so can't do it today
Thanks
