Refused Basic Bank Account

Help!

I have to set up a basic bank account as I need to start my DMP with CCCS soon - I will have to give my work the new bank details by 16th Nov for my December pay to go in to the new account.

I applied for the Nat West (Step) account and have recieved a letter today saying that they won't open it for me. My credit history is TERRIBLE - but I thought that was the point of these accounts.

Can anyone offer any advice on where to try next? Is there anyone else with an appalling credit record who has opened one of these........starting to panic now

Thanks

R :)

Hi, I managed to open a step basic account with natwest and my credit file was in tatters. Why don't you give them a ring tomorrow. Maybe it's to do with your address? It really should''t be a prob if you don't want any extras eg O/D, chequebook etc.....
Alternatively phone CCCS and they will help :T

  • Try the co-op cashminder. They are wonderful!

When I was going to do an IVA they were the only bank that would listen to me. They are brilliant. Give them a ring tomorrow, you won't be disappointed!
  • Try Alliance and Leicester, they helped me when no-one else would-apply on line.

Thanks for the advice sandralovescats but unfortunately I'm currently with Smile (who are part of the Co-op) so I can't use them :(

I acutally feel really miserable about this tonight. I've been feeling really positive over the last week or so - really felt I was on track to make things better - now I'm worried that I won't find a bank that will take me!

You are virtually guarenteed an account with yorkshire bank....Phone them up and make an appointment with your local one and when you get there tell them you want to open a basic bank account to start with that has a debit card facility (they will give you maestro! :))....There are no credit checks either..

    good luck!

  • The Halifax wouldn't let me have an account because I am self-employed and they require your wages to be paid directly into that account. Try them and see what happens.
