(WANTY - SEE PREV) you ask if we are happy having our two children in a 4x4 or our large minibus instead of a smaller car, surely a no brainer. God forbid that you in your huge Astra estate hit a family of four in a Kia Pride, how can you sleep at night? How about if someone hits a pushchair or a toddler at full speed on a bicycle? where does it end?
I dont drive an Astra estate, I don't drive, I was using it as an example.
By the way, OH drives an astra, and it is an old style astra, they dont make them all the same size you know, ours is the same size if not smaller than a pride.
I sleep perfectly fine thanks.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

I vaguely remember a thread on here a while back about 4x4's. Was a hot debate then as well.
Personally I hate them in towns and cities. There is absolutley no point nor reason for anybody to drive them in towns and cities.
Don't go whining about dogs. If you have dogs and they are your excuse for owning one then you need to get out more. WALK THEM!!!
I wouldn't go with the idea of charging for a parking permit. I'd go with the idea of drastically hiking the tax for them except for the people that NEED themThis country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
it bugs me when you get people that buy this massive range rover, and the closest it has got to an off road track is their gravel driveway.
Oh my lord, and why they let women drive them is beyond me. :rolleyes:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

To answer your first sentence. Jumped up to$$pots. As we can quite clearly see from this thread. 'I've got one and I can drive it and there's nothing you can do' in a two fingered gesture type of way. The have no real reason for one apart from 'protecting' their family. Now I'll stop ranting and provide some stats.

So the point of all that??? All of you fools that insist you drive a 4x4 to 'protect' your family quite clearly need to do some research. There are several smaller cars which perform far far better than some 4x4's in the tests. Proof if proof be needed you can no longer use your family safety as an excuse to drive one of these monstrosities.
As for some of the comments regarding pedestrians and other road users. Its quite clear that if you have no respect or regard for these then you should not be driving.
And Wanty, as for your last sentence, I find they're usually stupid blonde bimbo's whose husband earns slightly more than 20 grand a year. This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -

Its a free country, I love my 4x4, its the best part of 3 tonnes, and I am happy that if I get shunted by some person who is too busy smoking a fag and screaming at her kids in her council estate Kev'd up vauxhal Nova, well I am happy that my family will be safe and they can worry after themselves.
Most people who complain about 4x4's are just jealous idiots like Mr Idle, maybe if you were not so idle you could afford one :rotfl:0 -

But what's the issue with 4x4s specifically? Presumably it's OK for me to drive round London in my 5.3-litre XJS pumping out God knows what while I get 8mpg? But it's wrong for some young mother to transport her family in a small Subaru with clean emissions and 40mpg just because it has 4WD?Can I help?0 -

Although not a 4x4, the similar-sized Chrysler Voyager was the only vehicle I can recall scoring 0 in an NCAP crash test! Size isn't everything. Can I help?0 -

Yes we are soo jealous
My fella would love a navara, but I have told him, he is not having one unless he will actually use the 4x4 function more than twice a week, and he will use it for what it is intended, not like the rest who make out they are oh so valient protecting their little ones from the big bad punto's, or because there is some staus symbol attached.
I love it when people decide that we don't like something because we are too poor to own one. :rotfl:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
