Oops. Cut my analogue aerial cable

As already said, Freeview and Freesat are completely different and require different signals. Freeview requires a signal from an antenna. Freesat requires a signal from a satellite dish. A dish set up for Sky can receive Freesat signals as they come from the same satellite. To get Freesat, you'll need a receiver and your TV will get nothing unless it is connected to that receiver and the receiver is on - unless of course you have a TV with a built in Freesat receiver. You will not get the traditional analogue broadcasts or Freeview channels through a dish, but you can get Freesat, which pretty much covers the same channels and you can get some HD channels for free through that as well. You can get Freesat PVRs if you want to record, or even feed the signal into a recorder if you already have one.
Edit:
Wayne77, you'll need another cable from your dish (you probably have two already if you have Sky+), which may well have a quad LNB on it so the capability of providing 4 feeds. Then you'll need the Freesat receiver.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. OK ,thanks Victor.
Now, is it worth getting another cable and reciever to have the Freesat channels?0 -

If you have sky and freeview it's not really worth having freesat unless you want a tv in another room.
The only other reason I can see would be if you wanted a couple of HD channels without upgrading to Sky HD but if Freeview hd is available in your area I think that would bee a better option.0 -

Probably not if you can get a good digital terrestrial signal. Just repair the existing cable.0 -

No TV has a dish built inside it. :cool:0 -
Thanks, seems like theres no need for Freesat when I have Sky+ and Freeview.0

All 3 platforms Freeview, freesat and FreesatFromSky have different channel lineups.
Some channels that are on Freeview are subscription only on satellite. Some channels on Freeview are encrypted on satellite and although subscription free require FreesatFromSky card and Sky digibox to view - total 10 channels including 2 HD channels although most of these are free on Freeview. There is only one channel (Men & Movies) at present that is on freesat and NOT on the Sky EPG although it can be viewed on a Sky digibox via added "other channels". Sky has many more free channels on its EPG than arew on the freesat (although on some freesat boxes these can be viewed in "non freesat" mode. Satellite has many more free channels that are not on Freeview.
For the best of free UK TV you really need both Freeview and either of the freesats.0
