Oops. Cut my analogue aerial cable

Hi,
During renovations recently the builder cut the co-axial cable that was connecting the roof aerial to the TV.
Now the work is all complete I plan to connect the tv to the dormant satelite dish that is still there from a previous sky connection.
Having no receiver at present what would be the best?
I think I would only require the basic freeview and as the TV is HD it would be nice to receive the freeview HD offering.
Any idea's

Hi,
when you say freeview, do you mean the free Sky channels, FTA, I think they call them.0 -
i should of mentioned i already have freeview built into the tv,
So i generally just need a receiver for the satelite dish, correct?
Also if I would want to record tv what would be the best options?0 -
Freeview on the TV needs an antenna, FreeSAT requires a dish unless that is also built into the TV.
If you want to record from freeview or freesat you maybe better off with an external freeview or freesat box
then you have a wide choice of HDD or DVD recorders.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi,
well as I understand it, if you are using the Sky dish you will need a Sky box.
If you want to use the built in freeview, you will need to connect tv to your aerial, do you have digital in your area yet?0 -
I have a freeview built into the tv
I have a sky dish that was used previously for sky packages
so to receive freeview or similar, do i need a sky box to do so with my setup?0 -
Hi,
to use you freeview built in to tv you will need to connect it to the analogue aerial, it is then digitised, if you have digital in your area, if not, to use the Sky dish you will need a Sky box.
If you connect from Sky dish straight to tv it wont work, without a Sky box.

Last time I checked you could use a freesat box with a sky dish0

Hi,
do you mean you can use both, though independently set up, or do you mean connecting the Sky cable into freeview box, so that would mean receiving the Sky programmes rather than the freeview ones?
Edit:
I was thinking that the OP was going to connect the cable from his Sky dish straight to his tv, which won't work.
Here, try this wee gadget.0 -

I use free sat dish that was here when I moved in. I use a very old sky box from a previous house to access tv on it. Without a viewing card you only get basic chanels I don't get 5 for instance.
You have to have an ariel attached to any freeview box or tv to get the channels.
I also have a freeview tv in another room but because I don't have an ariel to attach it to I have it on the free virgin channels with the box left from when I had a contract with virgin. Again I only get a few channels on this but I do get 5 on this tv.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
OK, I have Sky+(with Sky packages) and I also have freeview channels through built in TV freeview.
What do I need to do to recieve freesat channels?
Thanks.0
