She has been the same since she was about 2.. apart from the puberty which kicked in big time about 2 months ago.. we are used to her.. I think the worst of it is that she is very immature as well and doesn't realise anything and certainly doesn't realise the difference between appropriate and inappropriate which is sometimes quite embarrassing.. I don't think she realised anything bad was intended by it, so wasn't upset and she was confused when I was so amused by it.. I've never even spoken to this Casey's mother as far as I am aware.. as I don't speak to any of the parents at school.. far too anti-social for my own good I am!

    Right, the surreal day.

Go to the office as normal. Announcement made mid-morning about a total restructuring because of a contract loss a couple of months ago and a copy of a "consultation document" showing new staffing structure is handed out.

Two permanent members of staff are given redundancy notices. Two fixed term members of staff are given end dates. Me, as temp, is given a latest end date but with the probability of being terminated at any time with one week's notice before that projected end date.

Morale in the office goes to an all time lower than lowest ever depth. Meanwhile, the powers that be, back in another totally separate, non-contract-cancellation affected, department of the same organisation decides that the interview I gave to them on Monday morning was so good, they just had to employ me. I am phoned up about an hour after the bombshell bit and offered the job. I went outside the office to take the call.

I couldn't of course, say anything to anyone - not even whoop with joy, because it would be so unfair under the circumstances they are dealing with. So, all day, I've done the poker face bit. Not commented on my situation. Not whooped with joy but tried to offer practical advice to the others. It's been so hard! But the professional within me has risen to the fore so as not to make my colleagues' angst worse.

The job is fairly menial, pays pants (so I'll still be doing the other three jobs on top!) but it's far more secure and I'll actually have Responsibility (albeit slight!) and not have to sit there day after day throwing the question to the office "Is there anything I can do for anyone - help in anyway?"

I get paid holiday days, sick leave (not that I take much) and I'll be able to prove myself very quickly so I should get promoted within a short while.

To say I am relieved and overjoyed is an understatement. I have spent the last six months or so feeling totally inadequate, undervalued and have had the associated depression that comes with that. It is so silly, I am now almost weeping with joy over the offer of a job that I can do with my eyes shut.
