What has this bad weather taught you?

I've learnt that I must live in some weird parallel universe in which bread and milk don't run out. Absolutely no probs and even got my asda delivery the day after it was cancelled and we're in Yorkshire so seen some bad weather!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

It has taught me ( or confirmed to me) that.
1)The media like to ramp up a bad situation into an over exaggerated crisis
2)That the snow brings out the worst in some people making them lazy, spineless and selfish
3)The snow brings out the best in some who help others,be considerate and clear paths/get shopping in for those less ableFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I've learned that having built up a store cupboard of food, loo rolls, long life milk etc, i can absolutely manage to avoid the world, stay home when it's not necessary to be out for one reason or another, stay warm-ish, have enough of everything to help out family and friends and to just let the weather just get on with it.
Fortunately the last 5 days have also proved to be No Spendy Days for me... had the weather been better i would have been getting out and about and spending... so at least that has been a positive amongst the many negatives the snow and freezing weather has bought us.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

It's taught my son that he could do with some walking boots and waterproofs. Whilst expensive to buy now (if there are any left) I will seize the chance to kit him out with sensible clothing/footwear.
It's taught me not to set off for home in a blizzard. Everybody else is doing it too and traffic comes to a standstill.
It's taught me to always have breadmaking flour in the cupboard. We didn't use it but I liked the reassuring feeling that it was there.
It's taught me that we are extremely fortunate to have a home. I saw a guy coming out of the library who looked as if he hadn't washed in several weeks. I wondered where he was going next.0 -
It's taught me to stock up earlier next year, or to have a constant stock going as I didn't expect snow this early
To have goodies in our stocks as a lot of time snowed in = a lot of telly watching leading to the munchies
To have activities in the cupboard for the kids, crafts, new games, etc. otherwise the little darlings will do your head in, and even they get sick of constant disney films running.
To buy a snow plough and a pair of wellies when I next see them and even if the snow has eased off now I will most likely need them for next year
Order online items early as you can't risk some things not arriving for christmas
That my quinny pram with it's 4x4 wheels slices through snow like butter, but the little buggy with it's titchy wheels is useless!!!

Another thing to bear in mind is always, if you're going out alone, in snowy or icy weather, take a whistle or a personal attack alarm with you. Then if you fall and there's nobody immediately about, at least you can make a noise and hopefully summon help. What a pity those two poor pensioners who died in the snow in their gardens didn't have something like this on them!. It might have save their lives.0

It taught me that bread is valuable currency :P
And that people realy do pull together when needed, today lots of parents went and shovelled snow from the local school even some of the teachers helped. Meaning the children can all go back to school tomorrow as normal.Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
