Hi
Baking my own bread and stocking up a soya milk and tea meant I won't have to venture out until tomorrow. Also lots of tinned tomatoes and dried beans meant I could cook from scratch instead of relying on ready meals.Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
I started to make my own bread a year ago in my breadmaker I haven't bought a shop loaf since, so I have enough flour for 3 months. I have built up my store-cupboard over the last year. I prefer fresh milk but I also have 6 cartons of long life milk, and my freezer is full. I am not being smug its just I took advantage of all the wonderful tips on this website. As it happens we missed the snow this time, but should it come this way I am prepared I could manage for months providing the power stays on.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

It's taught me to wear loads of layers rather than just 2 thick jumpers.
I went to my son's place that has no heating what so ever and had 5 top layers on, you can always take a couple of if you get to hot.

Its taught me just how lucky I am to have such wonderfull children:D.We always have a stocked pantry, freezer and fridge .Credit on both leccy and gas metres and extra dog food in should cold weather strike.Everything carried on pretty much as normal .If the kids hadn't done the prep work for our household including all the hard work of filling the pantry etc and keeping to the inverntries on them then we would have gone into panic mode over the last couple of weeks.Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0

I learned that its much much better to skip work, skip school and stay in bed til at least midday with the TV on for the LOs on the first day of snow. After that, just get on with things as normally as possible.
I also learned that Thanks to this website, I am really well prepared for being snowed in. I don't live rural, but know what its like to turn up at the supermarket and find all the good stuff gone because everyone has been panic buying or stocking up.
Being snowed in is the perfect time to bake lots of goodies, play games with the children, have a clear out of a wardrobe/cupboard/drawer etc. The time can be used wisely and if you don't have to worry about making sure you have food in, you can enjoy it rather than be miserable0 -
I got caught out really badly one harsh winter and thought id be snowed in for days with nothing in. So am a bit ocd about having 3 or more of everything now :rotfl:
What I have learnt most is that I have some fabulous neighbours. There is a mix of old and young down my road, and nearly all of them have knocked on my door to make sure I was okay. A few have asked if I needed anything before venturing to supermarkets. One couple who I know well, even babysat for me on friday, when I had to work and the boys school was closed.
I dont have family nearby so its comforting to know I am surrounded by such caring people.0
