Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 5th December 2010. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all, feels cold here - but too dark to see out yet. OH is snoring fit to burst so I just won't get anymore sleep regardless. I can still hear him now - grrr.
One week of snow (yorkshire) and everything has ground to a halt - and I don't mean the infrastructure or gritters, but ME! My house looks a mess, I've offered myself to do far too much and realised yesterday that the children only have 2 more weeks in school before Christmas.
OH is being claimed by the black dog of depression again. Its very hard as I know I'm going to have to carry him again over this Christmas period - difficult when you have two young boys and they want to be with their daddy all the time! Never mind - heads down and get through it.
Will find some paper and do a menu plan today for the next week and also put a plan of action in place so that everyone in the family knows what their cleaning jobs are. Feel that I might brave the weather to go and see my parents - could do with a big hug
Hugs to all of you - and stay safe in this weather - forecasters say it will get colder next week. xx

Morning everyone
Dont think I will get back to sleep now. Rory the racing car is on so dont think my 2yo is going back to sleep either.
The weather has actually done me the world of good. Have got a poorly leg and am being told constantly to rest it but being a SAHM you feel like you should always be doing something, housework, cooking etc. But this week, Ive had Mr A deliver my food and as I cant/wont drive in this weather Ive managed to rest my leg. Bliss.
This might be a stupid question but made my first xmas cake this year. Oh it looks bootiful. Ive been feeding it brandy every 5 days or so. Its had about 1/4 bottle and I think that should do it. But my OH says you would keep keep feeding it. Can you feed a xmas cake TOO much brandy?
been invited to a Christmas fare today, its at the local dogs home so they will be trying to get people to foster their dogs over xmas. Not sure whether I should go as I could come back with about 5 dogs! I love dogs but I have 3 cats and our house is just not big enough!
Have a lovely Sunday everyone!Happy days

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland :xmassmile
Morning :santa2:
In my calendar - a bear in a basket/hamper/not quite sure cos it's squished
Yesterday morning there was still a bit of snow on the ground, then it rained, now it's foggy.
I'm falling apart - on my left, a frozen shoulder. On my right, tendonitis in my hip. Mr tru rubbed some ibuprofen gel into my shoulder last night, it was so painful I cried. I have some exercises to do so hopefully it'll ease off.
Not sure what to do today, I can't move much. But if I stay still for too long, I get a horrible dull heavy ache in both places :undecided
I was (am) feeling a bit rubbish before my body gave up (lol), now I just can't be bothered with anything. I haven't bought any presents yet. I'll buy online today and hope it all arrives before Christmas. If not, then tough.
Can you feed a xmas cake TOO much brandy?
No

Morning all
Hugs to those who need them.
Stay at home day planned for today - why is it when I'm at home the house seems to get messier rather than tidier?
Need to parcel up DS's toys that have sold on Ebay and do a bit more re-listing - they're making a fortune with their old toys
Chicken dinner for dinner today then the leftover chicken will go into soup/ chicken curry
Need to wrap up OH's family Christmas presants so he can pop over one day when the roads are better
Have a great day everyone0 -
Good Morning
Well, I spoke too soon yesterday, OH is back out to work today seeing to some snags on the jobbut he and the boys had a lovely afternoon out yesterday while I stayed home with Sex and the City 2 (and a box of celebrations
). I was a bit disappointed by it, the chemistry just wasn't there and it didn't gel peoperly, but any SITC is better than none isn't it? They came home with a Christmas CD for me, and a toblerone and after eights from the £land it was quite a big toblerone too, the boys always get one in their stocking so I am delighted at that price, and we ate it for dessert whilst watching the X Factor. Wasn't Rebecca fab last night?
Plan for the day is still trying to get on top of the house, it is beating me a bit and I am feeling more low than I have recently but I think its just hormonal and I am just going to have to battle through it. Need to do biscuits and bread as usual and think of something good for dinner, I also need to get out for some shopping and sort out what's needed for Christmas gifts yet. I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.
ESMF, I hope OH doesn't get too low, and you manage you get through this, I don't know how my OH has coped with me being down; so well done to you, and to mine too
beemuzzed, congrats about your DS's job, hopefully this will really help him
tru thanks for the song, you've got me singingand looke after yourself, hope you feel better soon.
JAckieO, I hope the anti-b's are kicking in and you're feeling a bit better today.
Lou - fell down the stairs!!!!!! My goodness, are you alright, make sure you take it easy today.
Hugs for everyone else in need or want, hugs spoons and hi5's all round
Have a great day!

Morning chums ,feel a 100% better than yesterday morning thats for sure .My arm is still a bit red and swollen but its getting less as the anti -bios start to work. Good thing I have a spare packet indoors at all times really as I wouldn't have been able to see the Dr. until tomorrow.
Well today as I can actually see the road outside properly I am going to venture up to the big Tesco's about a mile away .Hopefully they may have had a delivery and there will be some fresh veggies in .I shall get some for me and some for DD as with their tribe they eat quite a lot of them. It will be nice to see the outside world for a change as well. I was getting a bit stir-crazy indoors There is only so much housework that I can tolerate then it gets to be a bind.
Off to DDs this afternoon as I promised the boys a game of scrabble, and the littlest lad a looong story from one of his books .
Snow is clearing fast here thank goodness, fingers crossed it doesn't return .I only have four more presents to buy then thats all my Christmas shopping done. I have wrapped everything already, so being stuck indoors does have some compensations I suppose.Right now next on my agenda this morning is a long hot shower and a big bowl of porridge to fortify me for a slog around Tescos.Have a good day everyone what ever you are going to do and keep those hats and scarves on
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning folks, hugs to anyone needing them, really need to get my *rse in gear, will start will making lists of everything. This weather has really knocked any hope of being organised right on the head! The snow is still lying about 8inches thick here, and its been a hard frost overnight. We stay in a cul-de-sac and the snow ploughs and gritters havent been down so it is a big struggle for everyone. Some old folk make you want to give them a piece of your mind. My hubby and three others from the street decided to clear the road themselves - they were doing a grand job until this old bint came out and started having a go at them about leaving her driveway clear and her gate as she wanted her car out (she was going nowhere had they not cleared it with a little ford Ka) - something they were very aware of - but eh did she not stop and think these were chaps who have had a hard week, one a train inspector, hubby an HGV driver, one a plumber and one a farm worker - could have said sod it and put their feet up, but the main reasoning was if emergency vehicles etc were needed in any of the houses they wouldnt have had access. Sometimes, just sometimes neighbourly help is not worth doing, she gave them a piece of her mind, but hey ho if I meet her in the next coupke of days she might just get a piece of mine!
Nothing much happening today, got DGS as his mummy is a nurse and is doing back to back shifts so she can stay at the hospital, to save travelling the 20 miles there and back at silly hours given the road conditions. Will make some cakes with him - he is just coming up to two - but he loves baking. Hubby is away to work today, he drives livestock and there have been so many stranded animals that they are on a mission to get them moved and extra feeding out, so will make a nice big pot of Scotch Broth and HM Rice pudding for when he comes in.
Other than that a wee bit knitting - if I get peace - DGS thinks my ball of wool is a football so I never get a minute.
Hope you are all cosy and safe

Morning, sorry so many people seem to be sore and poorly, hope you are better soon.
I've just risked life & limb taking the dog out,it was short and sweet,I tell you.We were thawing nicely after rain yesterday, most of the snow gone, then there was freezing fog last night. Our steep drive and the roads and pavements are now lethal, just like a sheet of glass :eek:Please all take care if you are out and about.
Roast chicken later, but I forgot to get potatoes earlier in the week and we've run out.Ah well, there's always frozen chips
We've got visitors in a little while ,providing they make it,so better make myself presentable(that may take some time :rotfl:)xxx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
