Game Refund - Am I entitled to one?

I have a dilemma,
P U R C H A S E D a complete Xbox system from Game on behalf of a family member for a christmas present for another family member (Confused!). Anyway it turns out the person the present was for, has O B T A I N E D himself an Xbox today not knowing we had G A T H E R E D him one for Xmas.
I called Game and even though it's just over a week old, still un-opened and I have the receipt, I am not entitled to a full refund, only a credit note. Now if it was 20 or 30 quid I wouldn't mind, but it's over £300!
Is this correct or can I quote some consumer right to them?

Read the small print on their returns, as if its covered in the returns policy then I am afarid you prob wont have a leg to stand on, If it was faulty etc then you prob would have got money back but as its just a return you may not. But please dont quote me read the small print.0

(I think Game are a franchise).They like holding on to their money.You dont have any legal rights here-you are even fortunate to have been offered a credit note,they dont have to do that, Seems rotten luck though.Have you actually tried speaking to the Manager and appealing to him,or tried to ring Customer Services if they have a central number0

You have no legal right to a refund if you change your mind.
Shops will usually refund under the customer care policy, but they dont have to.0 -
The back of my Game reciept tells me that i have 10 days to return for a full refund or exchange.
But if your store is franchised then they do not neccessarily have to have the same rules as the main company and as the goods are not faulty there is no legislation you can wquote at them - you are not entitled to a refund if you simply change your mind.
A solution (Possibly!) could the person you bought on behalf of, simply not give the recipient the credit note for CHristmas? They could purchase loads of games, accessories etc instead for themselves - not exactly the same I know, but if your Game stores insists on a credit note then it may be the best thing???0 -
The website (online stuff only?) says 10 days to return software.it might be different for the x box itself.I have only a vague idea its a Franchise-(dont take it as gospel)-not that its relevant to you rights anyway.0

2. What are GAME.CO.UK's returns policies?
Any software (with the exception of those items noted below) may be returned for refund or exchange within 10 days of the despatch date.
Merchandise must be in the original box or package with all accessories and manuals in saleable condition with proof of purchase. We reserve the right to restrict returns to unopened or defective products at our discretion.
Defective merchandise will be replaced with a like item, upon return of the defective merchandise.
We will issue a full credit via your payment method for the price of any item you return that meets the above conditions.
This does not affect your statutory rights
You can return goods to your nearest GAME Store (check our Store Locator to find your nearest GAME Store). Please note: You must return any item using the original invoice supplied with your product and have your credit or debit card used for the original purchase with you for the store to process the refund.

.... Game advise that this applies to all products sold irrespective of hard or soft :eek:
.... unless the item is an exception
.... same policy applies to store & internet purchases
.... it makes know difference whether they are a franchise or not as their receipts state the policy and if it is not the policy then it shouldn't state it.
.... why not just ring 0871 200 1221 and see what they say ...

GAME aren't a franchise.
You don't have the right to a cash refund, but trying an appeal to the manager may work (my husband is one, they're not all evil!).
Your only other option is to give it a while, return it opened and say it's faulty.Say it isn't always reading discs properly (common fault)
They take your word for it without checking usually!.0
