LOL I love TVR's statement, It's both true and funny.
My mate who is a doctor turned up at my house with his just purchased 3 year old Chimera and this was the conversation:
Hello Mate, nice car
Yes it's great
So, did you buy get a warranty with it? I hope you held out and got a year's warranty!
No Alex, it didnt, bought as is 'sold as seen'
Oh...... everything ok with it?
Well just a couple of niggles really
Such as?
Well, electric windows dont work, neither does the aircon.........or locking.......or stereo...........brakes are a bit loose......clutch is a bit high................quite juddery under braking................................pulls to the left under braking....................................................pulls to the right under acceleration.......................................paintworks scratched...........................................................alloys are shot...........................................................all the tyres need replacing.
OK.......................Tax and MOT?
Well it's got 2 months tax and MOT
At this point I had to turn away..'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
So basically you're agreeing that all the cars on the list are rubbish.
Perhaps you could point out the French Manufacturers in the JD Power survey who score above the industry average, Renault and Peugoet don't seem to fair too well :
ps. those other car companies went to the wall for a variety of different reasons, not because people made derogetory comments on an internet forum.
If you're seriously suggesting that TVR's were not unrelaible cars, then you've obviously not owned one very long. (from an owner of a Chimaera for 5 years)
oh look Honda at the Top again !! why they always are
is just lucky that they are always there , or do you think there might be something in it ?
:DSmug Honda ownerBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Honda's are very reliable, no doubt about that. They're also more expensive new, and significantly more second hand. If all else is equal then the question must be: do you pay more for peace of mind, or less and take a bit of a gamble...?0

One thing to bear in mind is that the JD survey is as much about how the dealer treats the car owner who has bought a new car in the USA.
Many European companies let any back street garage set themselves up as a dealer as long as they pay the fees. VW is one of the exceptions, so you begin to see where the results of the survey do not apply to buying a used car in the UK.
Look at Honest John for a better picture. However I feel that much more emphasis should be on does the car feel right for you? Is the sellers name on the V5? If not why not?
Now wait for all the French car haters to have a go at me!!!!!!0 -

??? - The JD Power survey is a survey of UK car owners about UK cars, nothing to do with the USA.0 -

HONEST JOHN
Peugeot 307 - 2 stars out of 5
Bad Points : "Quality, reliability and annoying failures."
Renault Scenic - 3 stars out of 5
Bad Points : "Potentially heavy tyre wear on Scenics with 17" wheels. Blown turbos on diesel models. Patchy build quality."0 -

OK fine to get an order but in absolute terms there is 3/5 of FA between most of them best to worst is only 10.4% so less than twice as bad as the top scorer 15.4%->25.8% drop the top/bottom and you have 6.6%
With an average of 78.9% the worst is 22% more likely to have issues and the best is 27% less
Drop the top bottom those become 13% and 17%
17/27 of the manufacturers are within +-10% of the average.
11/27 +-5%0 -
In answer to the original question, I had 2 brand new 307s on a lease scheme in 2006/2007, and both spent a fair amount of time in the dealership with various problems. the main one (happened to both) being that the electric windows motor developed a fault, and on the second one i returned to the car in a central Birmingham car park to find all windows down... however, you get a lot of kit on a peugeot, and if you get a high spec you will enjoy things like disc changer, auto headlights/wipers (as lazy as they sound they are useful), cruise control etc.
Have you considered the traditionally more reliable cars? Honda FRV? VW Touran? you pay a little bit more but you save on having it repaired for daft faults. for those who have mentioned fords and vauxhalls above - i would put them in the same league as the french car makers, the develop daft faults too, however parts are not expensive to come by...0 -
I have a renault scenie dynamic which I bought brand new in 2002, now over 120,000 on the clock. At the time I was the butt of many a joke, .......its a french car, what did you by that rubbish for. well 8 years later still going strong, Ive had washing machines, flat screen tellys, big christmas trees, the list in endless. three proper adult seats in the back. very safe
Im live on the edge of the cairngorm mountains, and she's a dream to drive in the snow, even at -15c at midnight, no problem.
Keep thinking I should buy a new car but as she's been so reliable dont want to give her up.0 -
I think the problem with French cars is because the French have such a small number of hours in their working week, there will be a higher proportion of Friday afternoon cars made than would be the case in a factory where workers work longer hours.0
