Candidates - Things To Be Aware Of When Using A Recruitment Agency

I don't quite know where your coming from regarding me having a so called attitude.. You seem to keep avoiding the fact that the job I originally applied for was full time and had I wanted part time work then I wouldn't be applying for full hours would I
You have me confused with someone else. The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -

Perhaps you were psychic and *thought* you heard me say you had an attitude, since i didn't once think or say that before, but i'm thinking it now. And "keep avoiding the fact..."?? I have never replied to any of your posts or points before. All I commented on here was your paranoid belief that you have been *blacklisted* from an agency. Doesn't take a recruitment agent, or a genius to work that out.
Yea I forgot to add sexki11en to my post has some of it was aimed at her so I apologise, However I still have not heard any reason for why agency's advertise vacancies,0 -

You may not have time to get through the large amount of posts on here so I will summarise for you.
Recruitment Agencies are there to make money from you. This may seem obvious but if you keep this in mind throughout your dealings with them, you will keep one step ahead.
When they question you about your other job applications, they are going to use this information to send other candidates to that company, possibly for the role you are applying for.
They are not asking you because they are interested in you - they are NOT interested in you.
Recruitment agencies can be useful, especially for temporary work, but they DO NOT need to know about your other job applications to put you forward for jobs with their clients. So what if your CV gets submitted twice? The client is intelligent enough to know that if they use agencies and also advertise, they will get repeat CVs. This cannot be of detriment to you so do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
Give the agencies only essential information needed to register and apply for jobs. Any other information that they try and coax from you is purely for their benefit, not yours.
Keep this in mind and you should not find yourself in the position I did.
Ok, Not reading this whole thread, tried to read last few pages but it seems to have gotten silly.
Lily - I'm sorry you was screwed over but not all recruitment agencies are like that. And I realise that it was Hays - There's a Hays near me and a lovely consultant there (better not put her name!) Who has actually helped me out, a lot. She's put me in a few vacancies, most were temporary, some ongoing and 1 was temp to perm. However, the job I have now WAS sourced through Hays and I'm so thankful for that. I love my job, been here a year and its all down to one recruitment agent who helped me.
To all the RC's - I know myself that the industry has a bad rep and people tend to use the same brush for them all - I used to work within a recruitment agency and although I still visit the office often and see them all, I wouldn’t dream of going for a job through them (mainly because one of them is screwing the boss and has a "I’m now better than you!" attitude lol)
To everyone slating RC's - Please do not tar everyone with the same brush. Lily made the error of telling a lousy agent where she was interviewing. Of course the agent is going to try and get business, that’s their job. It may/may not of been underhand but the simple fact of it is, if Lily hadn't told the agent, the agent would of been none the wiser. You shouldn’t treat every company the same, AND most importantly, It was the agent who screwed lily over, not the Recruitment Company.
Lily - unfortunately you have had a bad experience, as have other. Use that experices, wise up to some company’s tricks and move on from it.
For the record, I have my CV on Monster (My trial was for a year, that’s just passed so I’m in the process of removing all my cv's from various places) I have recruitment consultants calling me up asking what my current situation is. I always tell them I am working and thank them for ringing but not once do I tell them the name of the company. I normally say something like "oh it’s an admin job in the city" - I'm not being rude to them, but neither am I giving them any information. That way, IF there comes a time I need to use them, I know they won’t see me as "the rude one who slammed the phone down or shouted abuse"
Instead of this thread becoming something aggressive (well, we're past that, but even more so)
Why don’t you use it to ask the RC's tips to help you get to an interview stage with a company?
RC's - Why don’t you prove by helping these people on here that RC's aren’t the monsters they are being perceived as?0 -

Sorry if I'm missing something but it sounds very much like you just asked why recruitment agencies advertise job vacancies....???The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -

Why advertise non existent vacancies ?0 -
LilyDeTilly wrote: »Unfortunately Jay, the majority of RCs who have responded here have accused us candidates of having 'attitude'. Apparently we all have an axe to grind because one agency or another did not get us a job. They overlook the fact that many people have provided evidence of how they have been screwed over by one or more agencies.
Hence the reason I highligted the second bit on your post. Some people have overlooked what we have written because they simply do not know what to say when the truth (based on our evidence and experience) is put to them.
Its actually quite pathetic that people will side with these lying organisations. I think this is the society we live in today, Because they have had no negative experiences then that must mean anyone else who has must be either lying or It must somehow be our fault.0 -
LilyDeTilly wrote: »Second point - That's interesting. This is exactly the situation I had but, according to Ms Cavework, I "stamped my foot and demanded an answer whilst playing both companies off against each other". So apparently a candidate is not allowed to put any urgency on an application.
Well LilyDeSilly I see you continue to make your sarcastic remarks as you have done throughout the whole thread.
Well done. At least you are consistent.
As for adding urgency. Some clients may speed up, some clients would ignore it or call your bluff & some clients would discount you for not having enough commercial acumen to be able to understand they have a process to go through.
So all in all your continued generalisations leave anyone with any experience the ability to tell you are indeed clueless. :eek:Not Again0 -
