I still can't grasp why people are on here siding with agency's lol... they serve no purpose and are destroying peoples chances of finding full time work, Say what you want but I know this is a fact

    Thanks
So the first time you informed the consultant about your job offer he/she ( lets say he from now on) didn't ask where it was , but when you contacted him again in the afternoon of the same day of the interview, to remind him you needed an answer that day, after telling you the decision had not yet been reached, suddenly he was interested about the details of company 2.
You kindly gave him the information and he immediately got in touch with company 2 to offer the agencies services for the job you had already been offered[/QUOTE]

No-one has accused agents of stupidity, just duplicity.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I must say that agencies have their place - for any small to medium enterprise that does not have sufficient HR resources they are invaluable. To be honest I can't really see why any large company can't place its own job ads and do its own filtering, other than recruiting for some kind of very specialised roles, or for poaching competitor staff while keeping there own hands initially clean....

Let me see .. Those poor old employers have no choice but to advertise vacancies through an agency. They are FORCED to pay over the odds because they have no other way to advertise the job themselves and work through the applications.
They use the agencies because they know that the consultants don't give a darn what calliber of potential employee they are putting forward as long as they get the cash . Return business is not a concern at all :rotfl:
All the people looking for work are then FORCED to register for jobs with these darned nasty , in it for the money , self centered .. BIG POINT HERE.. BUSINESSES.. because those poor employers have no other option.
YEP its all the agencys faults and they are all mean and nasty.. get rid of them all and rely on the job centre.

Anyway just to lighten the mood ..
When I was an Industrial Consultant ( many years ago) I had a disgruntled gentleman refered to me from another one of our offices.

He had registered as a reprographic platemaker
They tried to send the poor man for an interview at Worcester Porcelain :rotfl:
  • It is a shame that this thread, which has some good information buried in it, was derailed with some petty infighting. Sorry if that offends some, but it is difficult to read through all the muck to find the relevant bits to the original topic.

I, too, have some strange experiences with Hays, including being called for a job that was perfect for my skills/experience, given the name of the company, and never being contacted again.

Others will call about a job, discuss it with you, tell you they'll email you straight away with more info about the job, only to never be heard from again.
    ...
My personal opinion is that they practise a lot of discrimination. People who have the correct experience and qualifications don't get put forward because they are too old or not of the correct origins.

Oh, I can't agree more with you. I'm definitely experiencing this right now in my job search.

I don't care who's fault it is or isn't, All I know is its keep people from working, Not everyone wants to go through a agency to find work, Least when you get a job through the actual company you feel some kind of security, We have people who are so naive and seem to think agency's don't lie and don't advertise false vacancy's, Even when people like myself come on and tell them other wise.

lol What you going on about ? I applied for a vacancy I found at a jobcentre and when I called the agency they said you can start the job straight away if you come sign up and you have the relevant qualifications which I did. I was successful and it was them who admitted the job didn't actually exist and that they advertise stuff to get people on the books who would have the relevant qualifications for when such jobs arise, Explain your defence of recruitment agency's

Originally they just told you to come and sign up. Or did they actually say "If you have the relavant qualifications you should come and register because we have an immediate start after a successful interview'

Second part, I simply don't believe you, sorry. Why would they say that to you, so that you can tell everyone you know not to bother registering with them, and tell the JC they are only fishing. It does not ring true.

    Sorry :(

So you want people to have no job security eh, You want to push people into short term crappy contracts ? Then when they are shoved out the door by the agency because they no longer need / want them, what then? I'll tell you what happens, They will end up back unemployed and then go back to other agency's and follow the same cycle of of working for a few month, unemployed for a few month, If that's your idea of a future then so be it but It's not mine. I wan't to work for a ACTUAL COMPANY and not have some agency call me up after 2 weeks saying the company don't need me now due to work being a bit slack, But don't worry we'll call you when some work comes in, That's what happens
