Yes you can, If you're exit was clear when you entered the box and a plonker from left/right barged in front of you causing you to stop its not a contravention. If the left lane of a two lane box is clear and someone stops in front of you when you are in the right lane then you are also clear as the exit in the other lane was clear. There are quite a few ways of stopping in a box legally. That would not stop the council issuing a ticket though as most people would not check if the council was correct and just pay up.
http://www.ticketfighter.co.uk/yellow.htmI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
I agree you would have a defence if someone stole your space. There are as you say other reasons you are allowed to stop. It would be interesting to hear what the contravention actually was.
Maybe I should have said. "With due respect unless you are turning right and your exit is clear you cant stop in one! Unless you are stopped from exiting for an acceptable reason!";)
Apoligies to Sarah1969 if I misunderstood her.;)0 -

You did misunderstand. It is not a contravention to stop in a yellow box. It's a contravention to enter one if you cannot exit it. But councils routinely send them out when they see a vehicle stopped in one.0 -

I believe the mistake I made was assuming the OP admitted the contravention, when as you say it may not have occurred.
I think I will have remember to engage the brain before hitting the keyboard.:D0 -

I think the problem is that most people would assume that if the council have sent out a PCN, then the council must be right. Unfortunately, the OP hasn't come back and given us any more info.0 -
Have PMed the OP with help since this thread has gone down the pan.0
