Ryanair blame cancellation on snow to save money

Hmmm ok well I should have put a question mark at the end of the title.

The point is there didn't appear to be any other reason for the cancellation, since the plane was all ready to go, and the reason given was adverse weather, but other planes were going.

You know they desk staff called the police to be on hand before they made the announcment. I think because they knew there would be trouble, which there was, because there was no other reason for not flying other than there were very few passengers.

I asked in my OP if having few passengers could be a reason for not flying .... has that happened before ?

Of course I don't know that for a fact thats why I'm asking here.

The evidence I've presented is:

The plane landed empty ... ie it was sent for us
It taxied to the door and our luggage was loaded
we were told to board
The plane was refuelled
The snow scrapers had cleared the runway and the taxi way
the plane was about to be de iced ... they leave that till last minute
Other planes including ryanair flights had just taken off, landed and continued to do so after and long after .... logs are all available
I have video of other planes taking off landing boarding at same time.


So what was the problem ? 50 passengers only ?

Maybe the (hypothetical) standby crew had already been used on another flight. How many standby crews should there be?

I guess OP means that they would reimburse you? have you spoke to the hotel also? I used to work in hotels and in case like this there is no way we would be charging people. Did this happen today or another day?
OH just on the phone to my SIL in Spain, she said that the air controllers all walked out today :eek:and flights to Spain are cancelled. Have you spoken to the hotel?

Well we don't know for a fact any more than you do. It's all speculation and inferences.

To find out you'll have to take Ryanair to court. They will doubtless file a defence citing the weather. Whether they or you win depends on how good that defence is. There may well be facts you don't know.

And maybe not. There should be adequate standby crew to provide cover.

yes I have insurance, however there is an excess on the policy of £150 for cancelled trips, ( policy recomended by this website btw).

My hotel wasn't more than this for the week. I have asked Alpharooms to see if I can get any of it back and am still waiting for their reply. They have said they will try.

The thing is compensation is not just about the cost of the holiday it compensates for the loss of the holiday which can be a lot more. I don't know how they work it out. So I am looking for my actual costs back plus some.

Ryanair have already sent back the £174 air fare.
