Marriage is as outdated as monarchism.Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money0 -
Not sure how to do the quote thingie, so sorry.
Someone said that me or my bf dies, then our house would be the subject of inheritance tax. How does this work? I thought the whole reason of being joint tenants instead of tenants of common solved this problem. So if I die, he "inherits" my half?
As for the joint account, how would anyone work out what's his or mine? It would be split down the middle and his next of kin would get half? It's a joint account for a reason, it's both our money.
I am thinking about getting married, but the will sounds easier for now! :rotfl:
We've only been together 7 1/2 years, we can wait another 7 1/2!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
Mortgages (End 2017) - £180,235.03
(End 2021) - £131,215.25 DID IT!!!
(End 2022) - Target £116,213.810 -
This should answer most of your questions but will take about 10 minutes to read. Basically you see the benefits more as you get older. When you are young and have no kids you do not tend to think about "What will happen if...?"

Hi If you are confident in your relationship and really love each other then I cannot see any difference in whether you are married or not. I think often people who want to show everyone else how much they love each other are often insecure the ones not getting married are the content onesn0

My mothers cautionary tale was that, if you are in a crash and end up on life support, it will be the decision of your family whether to turn the machine off or not - not your OH. Or if you die, and your parents want a big state funeral with all the churchy trimmings, but your partner knows that you would have hated that, he doesn't have any say in the decision.
Next of kin comes before partner, but spouse trumps all.
Bit grim reading - sorry!! I would heartily concur with the suggestion to make wills that spell out everything you want to go where, even before you have kids. Apart from anything else, if you die and you haven't made a will your entire estate will be considered intestate until someone is appointed to act as executor, and this is not the kind of mess / delay etc that anyone needs when their partner has died. Get your wills done!0 -
I love my fiancee, I want to spend my life with her and share everything with her. Getting married achieves this. You might well manage whilst not married, but why fight? What is the justification NOT to get married?2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
