If she's nine surely she has said what she would like to give you an idea of what to look for?

In my early teens I overheard a telephone conversation between my mum and my nan and it was clear that my nan was having financial difficulties re xmas presents. That year my nan bought me an art set (pens, crayons, paints etc) and made my sister a rag doll, but she also made us both a small stocking with our names on it and filled it with bits. I'm now in my 40s married with kids of my own and nan still alive and I still have that stocking. It's never been filled since the original year-I'd worry about it tearing the fabric nowadays but I still have it out each year. Hubby asked me where it was today when we put the tree up.

  • I was in TK Maxx yesterday and they have some lovely bits and bobs for young girls, like little notebooks, candles (under supervision) , little cookie cutters etc. Im sure you can get quite a sweet hamper together for around £15.

Good luck and I hope that you get everything sorted.

thankyou everyone for your ideas and help. Here is where we are at ive managed to make about £10 on ebay and we have contacted a debt managment plan to help us with our debts weve realised there not going to get better just worse.
ive spent £18 on enough food for the rest of the month so that leaves me with £27 to get presents with, im loving the idea of making a sock monkey kit (but i dont know how to make them will look that up later) and the jars of sweets in rainbow colours. ive found a craft kit for making cards on ebay so will get her that hopefully. she wants a bean bag? does anyone know where i can find the polystyrene beads that i could make her one?
Again a big thankyou to everyone and here is hopefully to a merrier christmas for our household :) xx
