Filling drums of home heating oil

  • Hi, could anyone suggest anywhere in the Ballymena area with heating oil at the pump?

We've been let down by our usual supplier and struggling to find anyone else who'll deliver before Christmas now.

    Thanks for any suggestions.
  • Dont know anywhere in Bmena, but R Rainey & Sons - 147 Portglenone Rd, Randalstown do. Go out the Toome road turn right at Slaght, Go to the end of the Whitesides road to the crossroads and turn left, its about 1 1/2 miles down on the left. All well gritted roads. Or the place behind Asda in Antrim are £14 a barrel, well they were last week
  • To answer my own earlier question re Ballymena, LCC Oil have a heating oil pump inside their depot on Queens Street.

Price was just under 60p a litre this morning. So about the same as what they're charging per litre for a 500l delivery.

Got 2 20 litre drums £18 each found it hard to get stocks seem low. Seriously stink after puttin it in!
  • The garage on Grand Parade have the 20 litre drums for £18. Just bought 2! I have no idea how long that will last us though and, although our online order through Maxol says 24 Dec delivery they can't guarantee it. If it's not delivered on the 24th it probably won't reach us until 29th. Anyone know how long a drum is likely to last in this weather?

In this weather you could easily go through 100+ litres a week!! - lucky if 20 litres lasts a day.

Best bet is to defo buy direct from a pump (assuming you are not planning to get a delivery), just bring your own (clean) containers if you can and save a few pound. You will pay well over the odds for Pre-packed 20 litre containers.

Do you know anywhere within easy reach of East Belfast where I could fill the 2 containers that I have?

I have an oil watchman in the tank that monitors the oil level. It only started flashing (with one bar left out of 10) this morning but as we haven't had it that long I have no idea how much is likely to be left in the tank and how long it will last us. I think it's a standard 1300 litre tank. We haven't put the emergency drums in yet. We had burst pipes about 10 years ago and it's an expensive experience that I don't want to have to go through again.

Fingers crossed Maxol Direct deliver Christmas Eve or I will be having a stressed out Christmas.

I would advise ringing all your local oil men and asking can you call down and collect some oil from their yard - most can fill directly into containers, although a filling station with a dedicated pump would probably be easier.
Don't know East Belfast that well, so can't advise on stations who sell Kero in your area.
The watchmen can be unreliable, best bet would be to go out and dip tank (use a brush pole or the like) and that will give you a better idea of how much you have left. Turn your boiler thermo down a tad and that will give you a bit more time. Good luck and happy xmas
