It is the shower that will soon be history. Small children insist on a bath. Disney don't do shower gel

Have not got enough space to jiggle a bath and shower in the same room? We decided against making an ensuite for a bathroom that could have a proper bath and a shower cubicle.

I've spent most of today looking for car insurance. I'll be paying almost the same for insurance as the car. It's insane.

I found this the first 2-3 years of having a car. It makes having insurance seem pointless. If it wasn't only for the minor detail of the legality of it all...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

paper back dries out readably on a radiator.

    Book nerd alert:

Because of the way modern paper is produced, it isn't possible to get a book back to the same condition no matter how carefully it is dried. Ironically older paper has multi-directional fibres so dries better. However that's no reason to read a priceless old first edition in the bath.

Yip, I need a big bath and a small shower. I love my big shower:(

I didn't realise you had actually bought a kindle (note to self, read back more than one page).

    IRC thingy............

You need an irc client installed. I use chatzilla as it's a small firefox add on but any client will work.

You need to load up the client and then type:

    Code:
    /server irc.irchighway.net

This will connect you to the irchighway server. Once you're on there you need to type:

    Code:
    /join #ebooks

This will take you into the ebooks channel which has more than 2.2Terabytes of ebooks for free download. Once you're in simply type:

    Code:
@search name of book or author

You will get a message saying that your search has been accepted. A few seconds later a searchbot will offer you a file. Select accept to accept the download. That will send you a .txt file that's zipped. Extract that and you'll get a list of files. I searched for James Patterson and got a list of 1000 files. Here's an extract from it:

    Code:
!Bald James Patterson - [Alex Cross] - Jack And Jill (UC) [txt].rar - 202.21 KB
!Bald James Patterson - [Alex Cross] - Kiss The Girls (UC) [txt].rar - 197.63 KB
!Bald James Patterson - [Alex Cross] - Roses Are Red (UC) [txt].rar - 135.80 KB
!Bald James Patterson - [Murder Club] - Second Chance (UC) [txt].rar - 147.38 KB
!Bald James Patterson - Hide And Seek (UC) [txt].rar
    147.96 KB
!Bald James Patterson - Murder Club - First To Die (UC) [txt].rar -- 164.34 KB

Say I wanted to download the first book. I'd copy the text shown below:

    Code:
!Bald James Patterson - [Alex Cross] - Jack And Jill (UC) [txt].rar

And paste that into the irc window then press enter (without the file size). After 2-3 seconds you get a prompt asking you to accept or decline the file. Select accept and it will ask you where to save to. Select a location and select save and it will begin downloading.

Try the undernet server, channels #bookz and #ebooks.

Ummm everyone understands what zipped is don't they?

    ?

How legal is this? I know that there are legally available ebooks for free, but, on the other hand there are a lot of less legally available books too.

edit: I think ebooks are the future for a lot of academic research... if you are writing a niche book maybe 500 people will read, ebooks are just obvious. I wonder when all the universities in the country get together, and ever every masters and PhD dissertation in ebook format to their students. Sure it will happen.
