Quit your whining. The price has gone DOWN! I noticed yesterday it's "only" £1.38/litre at my cheapest petrol station for 20 miles ... and when I last filled up there it was £1.41.

You can look up your cheapest here: http://www.petrolprices.com

Highest in my town is £1.44 (but there are only 3 petrol stations)

Highest - lowest in my neck of the woods - £1.42 and £1.28. For unleaded.

    For a phone call? Probably!

Is anyone else looking at the typical contradiction in the response of the NOTW to the ongoing hacking scandal? Usually, the papers jump up & down with their expose screaming that the buck stops with the prime minister, or CEO. Here however, we have the papers CEO & owners blaming the minions who worked below them.

I cannot for the life of me see how Coulson (david Camerons ex adviser!) can continue to claim he didn't know. Nor can Rebekah Wade. To be honest, I'm starting to wonder if Rupert was in on it.

News Corp will struggle to come out of this with much integrity. Nice to see some of the multinationals pulling their advertising etc though.

Yes, it'll be very interesting to see what happens. I think there has been a big swing in opinion now. When it was Sienna Miller, politicians and other celebs getting their voicemail hacked, people were not all that bothered. However, a line has been crossed when they were listening in and deleting voicemails of a teenage girl who was already dead.

I'm not sure what will happen though. Yes, the advertisers have fled for now, but will they return? Will significant heads roll? Will the public care enough to boycott News International? Or will they start buying again once the next footballer scandal tips up?

Also, I wonder how many members of the public have any idea which papers and TV channels News International own.

I think any voicemail hacking is pretty awful - I'd be well p1ssed off if it were me. But I agree, accessing the voicemail of a missing (later found murdered) teenager is beyond the Pale.

They paid Sienna Miller £100k for hacking her phone messages. I wonder what they should pay the parents of Milly Dowler?

I agree, I can't see how Rebecca Wade can investigate herself. the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Surely she can and will magically find herself inoccent of any wrong doing but perhaps will feed an underling to the wolves. Oh wait isn't that whats just happened.

Isn't it amazing the police found nothing in all the logs they have had for a few years now but when Rebecca looking dodgey the paper can turn up something on Coulson. Wonder what Coulson will do now.

@PasturesNew - best of luck with the interview - stay calm and confident and ace it :-)

I think opinions should be judged of by their influences and effects, and if a man holds none that tend to make him less virtuous or more vicious, it may be concluded that he holds none that are dangerous; which I hope is the case with me.

Impact on the Newscorp takeover of BskyB? Surely the fit & proper person issue raises its head here.

Plus, Cameron cannot come out of this smelling of roses. He defended Coulson to the hilt when he was at no 10. Because he left NOTW, Coulson is being set up as a patsy before our very eyes imo. There is no way that Wade did not know this. The journalist stating editors leant on him in a heavy way for more of this will give names, as will the payments to police.

They justified their actions in a way similar to the final solution. I agree with NDG that they have gone phenomenally beyond the pale. Yet the hypocrisy continues.

    Keep digging folks....
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Great news, PN! Afternoon tea might be on you after all :) Good Luck!

Did anybody see This Morning? There was a survivor of 7/7 who I'm sure was booked initially as a reminder of the date for us all, but when asked by Schofe, he said that when his wife fell pregnant, they didn't initially tell anybody. Then they got a call from the papers saying that they'd had 'an anonymous tip off' that they were pregnant and did they want to announce it in the press? (that or the press would announce it for them).

I think it's so far deep ingrained. This has to be where so, so many stories come from. If you consider what the Paps do and their techniques of blatantly following people around whilst their trying to conduct their lives, then hacking their private phones is *just* an equivalent for journos.

It puts a very nasty taste in my mouth. Off with their heads!

Have they done anything they can throw these bustards in prison for? It's just appalling. I was swearing at the radio when I was driving. I would have bought a Times this am but got a Photography magazine (no not that sort of photography) instead.
