Are you marking Tau Day? Or are you a pi fan?

    The funniest bit:

The most annoying bit is the picture. Can't think of a picture, greek letters look boring so the opt out, pi sounds like pie, so in goes a picture of a fruit pie!

Pi is another of my favourite films:

There was also a scent of the same name which I bought:

You're not alone John. In the realisation that I already have way too many items of clothing, including some I doubt I'll ever wear () or fit into (:o) again!

I'm approaching 4 years of "no buying any new clothes, & no-one is to buy new clothes for birthday/christmas presents for me!". I've discarded way less than I thought I would, had 2 tshirts given to me, & really can't see how I'll need to buy anything for (gulp) 10 years!

People frequently give socks when they can't think of a gift. I have about 10+ unopened pairs of socks, as I am still wearing the ones which haven't worn out.

My attitude has long been to buy very good quality stuff in the sales. Buy what I need twice a year to replace what's worn out. Wear natural fibres for everything except sport.

I'd rather have 2 pairs of trousers that are comfortable and look good than 10 pairs that are cheap and start to sag after a couple of washes.

You were safe from the lightning inside the car. The biggest risk was that the bang would make you swerve and hit something. It doesn't stop it being an extremely frightening experience if the lightning strike was that close, though. However much our rational minds may cope, our sub-concious knows for sure that lightning is dangerous. :)

Yes. Cars are designed earthed. Has anyone else never been on a motorway in a thunderstorm? I have. Lightening merely forks around a car.

I've had this funny feeling that "Pastures New" is a closet intellectual.

This morning I learned where the monica comes from - obviously a childhood spent studying Milton at a ladies academy

I have not managed to translate this elegy but the last line is self explanatory.

Hamish is waking up to the economic realities of life...;)

He is beginning to realise that the GBP had been devalued by 25% and domestic prices of consumables are starting to close the gap.

Might be better to be in property tied to "Hubbert's Peak" as prices go up, rather than to a quantitative eased pieces of paper.

Can I just say that it's perfectly okay to cry? Do you really feel that you mustn't show that in front of your parents? Personally, I'd just cry my eyes out at home, and if they hear you at least they'll feel that you care for them. Maybe they need to have a good cry, too.

Very rational view GDB222. But human beings ain't always rational. I remember when my dear grandad died - similar to PN's old. There's a lot I won't go into. But I remember not crying at all, until being alone at home a day or 2 after. I answered a call from a work colleague of my dad. I was actually going through a load of old photo's at the time. Wierdly, I think I was trying to make myself cry - I felt a bit wierd having not cried, almost disrespectful. I took the call from the friend, and she kept telling me it was all going to be ok. As I put the phone down, the floodgates opened. But I was in the house all on my own. By the time everyone else got home, there were (AFAIK) no signs.

Actually it doesn't matter whether they're earthed or not. The metal of the car forms a Faraday cage, and you're safe inside it even if it's struck. Just don't stick your head or arm or anything out of the window!

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

dh's TROUSERS keep going sa funny shape atm. He had some beautiful brown linen ones for this summer. He went to work in them one Monday morning and wore them home on the friday, he assures me he gave them a rest on tues and thurs, but he came back with them looking like something from the 1930s. HUGELY stretched and baggy over hips and 4rse and mysteriously longer in crotch so that instead of sitting on his hips they could be worn with braces up by his chest. He hadn't noticed.

Speaking of scent I think I might have found my new one. :) its sounds very similar to the one that's been discontinued, but costs £20 more a bottle. :( Better than the one I smelled and loved but costs £128 a bottle. Gulp. I have another totally different one I want to try too.

I'm really confused here. Do his socks go baggy over his hips? I've read this over and over. Maybe I need to take a break from the screen.
