IT is not the listening to the lyrics that is so much of a problem - more the watching of the vids - and my DD nearly 7 would most certainly not stop to ask before viewing something new - we have used youtube for her to listen to new songs she learns at school.
I had to watch this one a couple of times just to confirm how unsuitable it was:

When I clicked on the link for the first time ever it has asked me to join up and prove my age as the content may be deemed inappropriate.
I tried that link and it asked me to prove my age too - but the giveaway is that it says the content may be deemed inppropriate as determined by the uploader - it's an official Rihanna video. If you type "Rihanna S&M" into the youtube search box, you can easily find unofficial copies of the video uploaded by other people that contain no warnings or filters at all.
My DS likes to watch youtube footage of people playing video games - it gives him hints for how to get past the difficult bits of his own games. Naturally, he only has games that are appropriate for a 10 year old, but sometimes he likes to watch people playing games he hasn't got yet. He is very good (so far) about not watching games that I have told him are too adult for him, but at present he doesn't ask. Cue a new rule: "You can't watch footage of somebody playing a game without checking what the age rating of the game is."That made me smile because we use the same terminology. Only 2 years into our "de-clarking" (again, not real name)
Garden is 100% de-clarked, house I would say close to 95% de-clarked.
Our first de-clarking act, on day one, was to throw out a gas fire that was praised by the EA as a unique picturesque feature.
something like this, but with fake logs..ugh.
A previous owner of my parents' house did it up in the 1940s I think but could be 30s or early 50s - ripped out all but one of the Victorian fireplaces and mantlepieces and put in gas or electric fires rather like that, with tiled surrounds a bit like that one but more patterned. In the 52 years my parents have owned the place, they've so far got round to ripping out one of them. It's not that they like them, it's just that for a long time they didn't have the money, and then they didn't have the time, and it was never urgent, and never quite made it to the top of their priority list. I'll see if I can find some pics of something similar.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Oh's family too! When they mvoed into their house in the mid-1980s, it was all, every wall, every ceiling, painted dark purple. Which was a touch oppressive. They called it "De-Smithing", too. They left the hatch up to the loft purple, just to remind themselves from time to time (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I can't really estimate the % of de-Jonesing we've done outside, but we've dug out about 80 trees, levelled two long barrows, filled in a moat, laid 35 tonnes of driveway and destroyed the mound that the man who came to 'clear-up' the place made when he bulldozed the outdoor stuff into a giant heap!
I didn't count, but I'll estimate that our 3.5 tonne van has made 15 runs to the tip with old junk inside. We also palmed-off quite a lot of scrap metal to a farmer friend who collects it. We still have around 70 old tyres to shift.
It was lucky that we made the removal of their ten tonne lorry a condition of exchanging contracts.:rotfl:
Inside...we've painted over the cerise and orange walls and removed the pongy carpets..... Errr, that's it, so 98% still to go there.:o0 -
OK so I found some pics, but MSE won't let me paste them in - says they make the post too long - so here are some links.
Imagine this fire in this fireplace, and you will get the right sort of idea. The fires were a bit more varied than that, but fireplaces of that sort were in all 3 reception rooms and 3 of the 5 bedrooms.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? This house was clean, but VERY dated when it was bought 15 years ago. I'ts got 70s tiles and decor and carpets throughout. But it had been kept immaculate (Hyacinth Bucket style). They left 'everything'. Curtains, carpets, cooker and two bedrooms of furniture. And, 15 years on it's still exactly as it was. Still got the same curtains, carpets, furniture, cooker. Still the same paintwork'/wallpaper. And it'll never be freshened up or redone. Ever.
Full coloured bathroom suite and matching 70s tiles too.
It was a "step up" for the olds though - they'd never had a house before with fitted carpets and central heating and double glazing.0 -

We've got that fire and we've got the fireplace boxed in.0 -
We still have around 70 old tyres to shift.
But, you can make a feature wall from them for the garden. Imagine if you drew a quarter circle, then piled the tyres up along that line, it'd be a wall - and you could put a bench in front of it.
Now you know where I'm going with that idea: Fill each tyre with old earth and pack it down hard. Stacking the tyres on top of each other. Then cover the mound of tyres with more earth/few stones and find something that'll grow vertically. You could even put a "roof" on it, like a pergola or even an actual roof.
So, big quarter circle of tyres earth mound as a garden feature.
Edit: It could be as high, or low, as you wanted. You might decide just 4' high's enough - and longer.
Edit 2: Here's one I prepared earlier http://www.flickr.com/photos/full-monte/5688290889/The idea was to replace the wall of claggy soil with rows of tyres overlapping in such a way as to allow them to be planted with flowers, fruits and herbs that would eventually mask the tyres and create a stable wall of color. Once constructed we would then top off the wall with a low dry stone wall.0 -

My "olds" have deliberately spent a fortunre on a house with none of those things - and listed building thingies mean they can't have them, either (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

And the other one's about the age where they'd not spot hypothermia was kicking in.0
