Er... news to me, I think it's traditional for Boxing day. It is quite advanced cooking for me in my fragile boxing morning condition, but Mewbie wrote a detailed recipe for tomato soup on hubpages that is well worth reading, so I might try it this year for boxing day lunch.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I tried to get a couple of tins today to take to work next week with some long life bread (I do live the highlife) and Sainsburys were completely out. The person next to me told me that people have it as a starter on Christmas day. 'Twas news to me. Anyone else heard this?
Nope. But its the only tinned soup I like. I have a couple of tins stashed way in case of dull days. I always serve it with sausage rolls if possible. weird, and not sure why.
I would have thought it was quite heavy before a big lunch.0 -

Maybe its more of a snow stashing thing then. It is lovely and warming when its cold out and I have to walk up and down the hill. Even to a vegetarian, it does sound lovely with a sausage roll, even if mine is from Holland and Barratts. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've been after a very simple kitchen accessory.... that you'd expect you'd find in any market, in any kitchenware shop, in Tesco, in Asda.... had to give up in the end. Tesco had the type of item, but only in white and it didn't look like they were out, it's just they only stock one type: take it or leave it. And this is one of the most basic kitchen plasticwares you can want, everybody has one.
Maybe your Tesco is not an extra extra big ginormous one?
I'm trying to guess what Tesco stock in white that is basic plastic.

Tesco basic household range is al white plastic I think. i have an ironing basket from there. I want a wicker one but my mother says it will be really impractical.:o0 -

At one stage in the past I had a large swing top bin as a laundry basket, ideal I thought. I'll be doing that again when I get a home.0 -

My new favourite thing are my kitchen tongs. I use them for everything and can't imagine how I lived with out them.
Just baked a yule log and feel quite chuffed. They always go wrong for me.
What are kitchen tongs? And what do you use them for??
Never baked a yule log, we don't buy them either. No Xmas goodies here. Just a dinner. No starters, no desserts, no buffet, no visitors. Just us and a dinner. I plan to do some baking of some sort on Boxing Day maybe though.... just for something to do as I won't be able to watch the telly.0 -
