That wouldn't work... you're not from round here are you!

I had in mind some things, but also wanted to look. So I wasn't entirely sure what I'd be coming away with.

Last night I did go online to look for something specific and found one in a shop 20 miles away, so I ordered it for instore pickup. Knowing I had that, today I centred my trip on that town, knowing I'd be picking up this one item. Got there - they didn't have it. Bloke walked me round to the shelf where it would have been and when he saw there were none he just shrugged and said "Not got any, nothing I can do about it" and shuffled off.

    :)

You wouldn't believe what you can't get/find down here. I've been after a very simple kitchen accessory.... that you'd expect you'd find in any market, in any kitchenware shop, in Tesco, in Asda.... had to give up in the end. Tesco had the type of item, but only in white and it didn't look like they were out, it's just they only stock one type: take it or leave it. And this is one of the most basic kitchen plasticwares you can want, everybody has one.

I'm intrigued. Everyone has one...makes me think grater, fishslice, wooden spoon. Plastic rules those out so I think some sort of lemon squeezer. (I don't have one!). My new favourite thing are my kitchen tongs. I use them for everything and can't imagine how I lived with out them.

Just baked a yule log and feel quite chuffed. They always go wrong for me. :)

My yule log is a three layered sponge with buttercream. (I didn't read the instructions that I was to roll the sponge while it was warm, amongst other mistakes) Slather with frosting, top with some holly and that's all I can do :rotfl::rotfl:

I just finished baking the clementine cake. I'm figuring out how to eat it before icing it. Also looking for inspiration to ice it as it should be a lighter cake than the buttercream one.

Also just discovered the joys of the food processor, it does EVERYTHING....

Er, our cake comes from tesco.

The internet has closed for business... no sales on Amazon yesterday... sigh. Was fun while it lasted. Unless I get any sales today, the boom time is over. Unfortunatly, now it is the nadir shopping weeks of January to go, until things start to pick up in the last week of January.

Oh I'm not icing mine. I used to make her lemon and almond cake as a cupboard staple and it was perfectly damp and yum by itself or with some whipped cream. i'm imagining this will be similar!

edit: hilarious that this week people eat much the same thing in the majority of UK households

    Ice cube tray? Plastic spatula?

    Mixing bowl?

I need to know now :D

Personally, I like a syrup with clements cake, so you just melt say 80g of caster sugar and up to 120ml of citrus juices (lemon or oranges) together over a low heat , then remove from the heat at once. The moment the cake comes out of the oven, brush it with the hot syrup, making sure it all soaks through, and of course you can skewer the top of the cake of you want it to soak through.

Does that include Heinz tomato soup? I tried to get a couple of tins today to take to work next week with some long life bread (I do live the highlife) and Sainsburys were completely out. The person next to me told me that people have it as a starter on Christmas day. 'Twas news to me. Anyone else heard this?
