Question for Pn and Tomterm....that google stuff that changed, what was it and why is it important...why does it change the order in which things come up on searches?

That reminds me. Someone complained to me at the library the other day that we (the library) were blocking his website because it no longer came up on Google. Couldn't accept that Google had changed its algorithm. It was our fault apparently.

Google decided that when people were searching, some of the top links being returned in the results were just badly written/foreign/cr4p 'sites' which had been written (or just automated) in order to get high ranks - and those pages were then stuffed with adverts. They weren't "good quality sites" that the searchers were really looking for.

Google therefore made these sites appear further down the listings. So, if you were always number 1 at Google, you could now find yourself 1001.

Some of these sites were owned by individuals. Some were "group efforts", like hubpages, squidoo, ehow, etc.... and if you were a good writer on those sites your stuff got dropped low too by association.

I did some stats earlier, my income from hubs 1-16 May is 1/4 of what it was 1-16 Mar.... but obviously all my writing is of the highest quality ever!! :)

I must add that the hubs ad program is doing quite well in replacing that loss, so overall loss will be down by about 10-20% probably.

Should have pointed out to him that only a loser would:
    - be checking their website in a library
    - be moaning when they had absolutely NO idea what they're talking about.

As tempting as it is, I won't say that to him if he comes in again as I could lose my job over it. However I will - thanks Pastures - get great joy from thinking it:D.

vinegar and elbow grease. I tried things like ''lime light'' but they were no better for the limescale and worse for the skin and lungs. when you have got them clean car wax hem and repeat about 3 times a year before the wax an have been washed off completely and you are back to square one.

edit: don't choose dark tiles when you retile. The blue tiles in London were a wretched nightmare every limey drop of water showed!

Thanks :) Strong vinegar and muscular arms it is then (cheers chewmylegoff as well)

Unfortunately the tiles in my bathroom are dark blue and white chequered. You can guess which ones are showing up the limescale can't you :o

I found my DW attempting to pound some cinnamon sticks in a pestle and mortar without making much headway. Is there a technique for doing this? I tried and was just as unsuccessful as her. If I ground it round and round, nothing much happened to the cinnamon, and if I hit it, there were bits of cinnamon everywhere. In the end, I carefully cleaned out the coffee grinder and used that.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes. You either buy ground cinnamon for things like baking or you just chuck the whole cinnamon stick into liquid things like stews, casseroles and mulled wine (mmmm) and pick it out later.

It's cheaper to buy it ground anyway for some reason so I haven't bothered with sticks since I last ran out.

We have people coming for dinner. House is a bit of a tip and I haven't even been to the supermarket. What do you feed huge tall hungry people? Shall I do a stew thing?

Its as if I'd seen your bathroom!

Yep, you have my sympathy. don't for get the car wax. An hour or two polishing when clean will save hours over all scrubbing blue tiles.

Buy a takeaway and throw it on a plate. Take their compliments graciously.
