My uncle and aunt lived in Sheffield, and I remember it as rather a nice town. I visited it first 50 years ago, and I was simply amazed that they could get from the town onto the Dales in just a few minutes of driving. I remember being taken to see 'The Stirrings in Sheffield on a Saturday Night', which I couldn't follow properly because of the accents.
I don't know if I was in a nice bit or not, the only bits of Sheffield I saw were the bus route to/from town, then round the markets.0 -
Just trying to find out where I was, I remember the name of the pub at the end of the road, which is this one I believe: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1114044
That'd mean I was in the estate opposite that. Had to cross the road and go down 100 yards to the chippy, then go "in" about 2-3 roads to get back to the flat. Looks like it was Dykes Hall Road, Wadsley, S6 4EX0 -

Well, my best memories were of getting out of Sheffield, but the surrounding countryside is simply gorgeous.
I think they moved to Fulwood. Around here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Stumperlowe+Park+Road&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl
But they were closer in when I first visited. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I bought a shiny dress in Sheffield market, that I wore to somebody's engagement party. Lovely dress, it was a squeeze to get into it though and it really only fitted me once, that night, if I kept breathing in and didn't touch the cake.
I found the spare button to that dress last week when I was looking through the old buttons pot.0 -

Yes they have....and they still are. I think it is more to do with the fact that training opportunities are greater and cheaper over there for their youngsters than here, a british lad wanting to do it really needs to have well off parents. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Question for Pn and Tomterm....that google stuff that changed, what was it and why is it important...why does it change the order in which things come up on searches?0

I live in a very hard water area and am struggling to get my shower tiles clean because of the damn limescale deposits  what's the best thing to use to nuke the limescale that won't dissolve half of the shower? :rotfl:0 -

vinegar and elbow grease. I tried things like ''lime light'' but they were no better for the limescale and worse for the skin and lungs. when you have got them clean car wax hem and repeat about 3 times a year before the wax an have been washed off completely and you are back to square one.
edit: don't choose dark tiles when you retile. The blue tiles in London were a wretched nightmare every limey drop of water showed!0 -
We've had a pretty much acceptable offer on the "right" house this morning. It wasn't a final so we're haggling still. Sod's law suggests we could end up properly homeless for a few weeks, though I promise, promise not to complain. Perhaps part of me would rather contend with three separate 'chains' than the politics of being in the middle of two sales merging into one purchase...
The house we went to see the other day was a total mess. Potential, we could easily see ourselves living there with the most amazing downstairs but apart from the obvious (woodchip wallpaper clearly holding the plaster on the walls and ceilings) we separately thought something wasn't right. Between the two of us and the different things we spotted, we think the kitchen part is subsiding due to broken drains underneath. I can't see any survey, even a valuation not spotting the problem. If it goes without a problem, I will be amazed.
I don't know anything about fancy powering houses I'm afraid. We would never see the payback on an investment like and despite H thinking energy saving measures add to house prices, I think we're learning that they don't!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

strong vinegar (you can get it from gardening stores as it's used as a 'green' weedkiller) and one of those sponges with the abrasive green bit on the back. it works better if it's warm.0
