I've bought one bed in my lifetime, about 22 years ago. Went into the shop and pointed at one in the sale and said "that one". Then lugged it around. Got rid of it when I sold my last house - nothing wrong with it, but the maths said that putting stuff into storage would cost more than buying everything new when I bought my next house. Bed was fine, wouldn't have ever needed a new one, it still looked as good as new.
The bed I have here came with this house, over 15 years ago - and wasn't new then.
I will probably buy a blow up mattress when I do find somewhere to live for the next 1-3-5 years. I've spent about 6+ hours today trawling through websites for places to rent. I've increased the budget by £150 and there's still nothing I want. I am now looking at places so expensive I doubt an agent would allow it
Why is rent so expensive? Why do 1-bed places usually mean flats? Why is so much heating bl00dy night storage heaters?
All I want is a simple/small 1-bed place that's not a flat, has off road parking, has a little patio, doesn't have NSH and preferably isn't in the middle of nowhere up a farm track.
It's looking like rent+basic utilities + council tax will come in at around £800/month ... which is pretty much what I earn on average. So I'd need to get a job - and that's why I can't get a place up a farm track.... as there's no work within 30 miles of those0 -
I seriously need a new mattress, mine is ages old and was a cheap one in the first place...now I have springs starting to come through.
I want to find out what the mattress was in the caravan last year, I have never slept so well or been so mobile first thing in the morning for ages as I did on that bed, something which is incredibly unusual for a caravan.
But, any replacement would have to be a cheap one...no way could I ever justify more than £100 on a mattress, no matter how good a nights sleep I would get.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Is it possible for you to find out what that caravan mattress was, Sue? I mean really find out rather than wish it were possible? I shouldn't imagine anybody would put monumentally expensive mattresses into hire caravans, so there's a good chance it would turn out to be reasonably affordable.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Yes, there is a possibility of finding out.....one thing I couldn't get over was just how tall it was, it had to be a good foot or so thick, made it fun to get into and out of though! We made it! My old saggy mattress felt very comfortable through the night. I had to drag myself out of bed this morning...it was too delicious in there! My cat pillow was purrrfect too....how many people' pillows purr lovingly and tidy their eyebrows on waking? One of the cats has taken to trying to stroke me, very cute....but it all makes it harder to get out of a warm soft happy bed in the mornings!0

I feel left out, everyone has a website.
My RL name is already taken as a website. Knew years before I joined in on here, as saw adverts by the company. The business is based in London, and makes/sells something linked to a debate on this thread recently.
Playing bowls last night, we could see another thunderstorm approaching as the game was drawing to a conclusion. We were all a bit  trying to finish the game asap. I'm usually one of the last players to go on the green, & it always seems to rain on me...:(
Isn't it wierd how many of us appear to be considering buying mattresses at the same time? The boxspring/memory foam combi's seem to be quite popular. My budget for a mattress isn't great at the mo. Starting to get minor aches from the bed, & debating a lot whether this is something I need to purchase asap, or whether I can manage a month, or even 2 or 3 to be able to afford a better one. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
