Alternative Vote Referendum
Why are the Conservatives so against AV? Is this because they think they'll lose out?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I don't know anything about it; I didn't even know there was going to be a referendum until I saw a random leaflet round the house about 3 days ago. I did wonder why there seemed to be quite a lot of forum threads with "AV" in the title .... had no idea it might be something I'd need to know about.
You can put me down for a: Don't Care.
I seriously don't care what happens, or who wins. Whoever wins has always been in it for two reasons:
1] For themselves
2] To tax me on new stuff and increase existing taxes
So, years ago, I figured why should I care which one gets in as they're all as bad as the rest.0 -
Digging holes can be great fun, if they're in the right place. I don't know that I'd go too deep for a 1985 one though!
In our old garden, in the bit which we still own, is a filled-in pond that goes back to Victorian times. The bottom of it is about 70cm down and composed of stones, fitted together tightly, presumably to stop the animals making it into a quagmire. Above those is a layer in which discarded old ink bottles, pot lids and jars can be found. I'd dig out the soil from this hole and, because it was stone and weed-free, put it into potting mixes. When I had a large enough hole, I'd then pull out the stones from the bottom, use those for walling and back-fill with old concrete, rubbish etc as the base for a path. It was a very deep base!
The path had progressed about 2/3 of the way across the estimated pond area when we sold. I don't suppose I shall ever finish it now.:(
I do have a nice little collection of Victorian inks & jars though.0 -
Alternative Vote Referendum
Why are the Conservatives so against AV? Is this because they think they'll lose out?
They don't like it because they think it greatly increases the probability of having coalitions because it's so much more difficult for any one party to get an overall majority. One of my FB friends is a Tory who has described AV as a way of having a new PM each parliament, but never ever changing the DPM - because the only possible outcome of a general election is some kind of coalition with the Lib Dems as junior partner: hence Clegg as permanent DPM.
I have no idea whether this is accurately what AV would produce, or whether it would be a good or bad thing if it did, but I am reasonably certain that this is the reason the Tories don't want it. It's obvious why the Lib Dems think it's a good idea.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

They don't like it because they think it greatly increases the probability of having coalitions because it's so much more difficult for any one party to get an overall majority..
They don't want it because it means they are less likely to be elected. They wanted the reduction in MPs because it makes the Tories very much more likely to be elected.
The reduction MPs is in practical terms much more significant than the AV. At most, AV would have impacted the government chosen in two election results in the last fifty years...“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Thanks. The thing is I can't afford to wait around for ages for another car to come around. I have to go back to work on Wednesday, and the insurance company will stop paying for my hire car on Thursday.
So once you add on the inconvenience of not having the hire car or the cost of continuing with it yourself, it is less of a rip-off than you were thinking it could have been.My friend and I checked on Parkers. It was a bit odd - only listed the C-max from 2010 onwards, so we looked it up under Focus C-max, which is definitely different - they only stopped building Focus C-maxes in 2010, but they started building C-maxes (without the Focus bit) in 2007.
You need to compare like with like. Is it a focus or not? According to the WhatCar website, the focus c-max mpv was 2003-07 and the c-max mpv from 2007-11.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Fights broken out on the Tesco DTD thread.:rotfl:
Have to quote this snippet:
" remember only to buy one for £10.50 as they're on offer 2 for £10 and dtd won't work then! Try to go to a 'less intelligent looking' SA, better ones try to tell you about the Finish offer and it's difficult saying you're happy to pay more for one when two would be cheaper!"
