Met a tourist in the lane I use to cut across to 'Chez Dave' though. Big, new, very black Beemer & specs to match. Not happy to reverse, but 3.5 tonne van trumps that! :rotfl:
You haven't met me in stroppy mode, then.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

And, sometimes, if we have to, us locals will turn the engine off and get the paper out until you've sorted yourself out.
You don't have to be in Devon to do that. Like I said, when I'm in stroppy mode .....No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

That would also solve the problem about where to put the toilet ...No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
We have a walk-in shower in the top floor bathroom, and it looks fine, but it's a bit of a mistake. (Similar to this one http://www.taps4less.com/PP/LA-WALK1070R.html ) The problem is that it's draughty and cold. Our en-suite shower is just a standard cubicle with a door and it's much, much nicer to shower in. I've never tried a really big one with a door, but I suspect it might be a better bet but still not as warm.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

It has been mentioned in the past already that we are having a 'bl**dy big extension' so I suspect the planners might not be too please if we decided it wasn't big enough.
One option to have a big en suite would be to ditch the 3rd upstairs bathroom - at present the plan is for 2 en suites and a family bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs in the bit that could be a granny annex if need be. I guess we could also have a bathroom at the end of what will be the 'games room' in the loft although head height is limited as no shower up there.
I don't know if double ended baths are that comfortable for 1 and now we have the 3 kids shared baths are but a distant memory but the standalone ones the symmetric ones do look nicer. The idea of a half wall for the walking shower as a separator from the toilet does sound possible, however if the toilet and basin are not next to each other then the basin might change from a cabinet under style to a wall hung one and then we lose the useful cupboard storage...We do keep the house nice and warm which should be cheaper once the new extension is insulated to the latest standards so feeling cold even without a shower door shouldn't be a problem.
I have been forced to reverse about 200yds in the dark in a saloon with poor rear visibility (up one of those hills round several bends) because the wrinklies in the other car refused to try and go back about 10m :eek:I think....0 -
In terms of layout, the RH wall will have a window on which we can choose the position and sill height. The door can be anywhere in either the LH or top wall. The width must be less than about 8 foot 4 (but 8 foot would be best, the length from top to bottom can be varied but will take space from either or both of the master and a double bedroom.
The total distance for what will be 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms is about 38 feet x 12 feet (widening to 14 feet for the final 13 feet at the back), there will need to be 3x6 inch walls to separate the rooms.I think....0 -
I've had a corner shower twice. They're bl00dy fabulous. Loads of room. What I liked about them was that I could just slide the door open and reach my towel to dry off, before I stepped out of the shower.
They were both identical, a full quarter circle, with two sliding doors in the middle. http://www.chinasteamshower.com/images/products/2011218170538360w300h300ugtshower/corner-shower-enclosure.jpg
They tend to be 1200mm each side (er, I think.... I am no good at understanding/visualising these new fangled measurements)... which reminds me of something in the week, which I'll create a new post for.0 -

So, there's this new Dunelm Mill that's opened - and I figured I was only 4 miles from it en-route home the other evening, so it'd be a good chance to pop in and see what they stock so it's in my memory bank of "places to go for ...."
They've got a lace curtain section and some customers were just leaving the area. All staff are new and the seated one spoke to the standing one about the customers who had just left. The standing one enquired in an American accent "How did you know which measurements to select to quote them, or did they give you the details?" so the seated one said "Oh he said it was 3.75 metres, so that's the 375 size" ... and showed the American something on the screen. The American woman said "Oh ... I only know feet and inches". She's obviously new to the UK, new to the job ... and in a department where items are measured/spoken about in mm/cm/metres. I can see somebody ordering curtains and her giving them a great quote, then on collection they find they only fit their outside toilet window0 -
I've been having problems with MSE today. Not sure if it's them or my connection (which is also deathly slow today).
Keep losing posts and keep having to "thanks" twice, or discovering my last "thanks" didn't thank - hence the "twice" needed.
Darned internet.
Anyway, I think I have enough of an understanding of one thing I want/need to be able to move forward from my current Impasse situation caused by not being able to get my hands on stuff. I've researched "the best supplier of" and found [a] the company.... but on further researching, I discovered they are not only well-priced, but also offer a trade account. Well..... being very MSE about it all, and knowing I will be using them/this stuff (I think).... I'm now faced with a dilemma of buying £20s worth, or £200. The difference between trade and retail is SO MASSIVE that it's nuts to fanny about with a small supply.... might as well bring on the big guns and order big.
Now I need to find the "best supplier of ..." tools to work the material
And, as I've ordered £200 of the stuff, I need to invest properly in tools (again, not start by fannying about ordering one small hammer, but really grasp things).... however, this means some importing I think as the tools aren't available here in [a] the range the price. In the UK I can get 1/10th of the range at 4x the price, so it makes sense to buy a big range and import them, for the same cost as less items'd cost me here.
Hate to be cryptic, but this is an aspie trait of "not wanting to be specific about what I am doing as I fear the detailed inspection and potential mocking of my ideas".
Neeeeeeding that workshop.....0
