I honestly believe I may have 'caught the sun' today - my current working pattern certainly has its advantages.

I really enjoyed reading Vivas reply to Lemon and then juxtaposed with PNs weather update, completely delicious.

With regards to Lemon and Viva's discussion I find there is often a good OP followed by a couple of pages of point scoring with the odd good post chucked in. I then post something insightful that cuts through the bullsh*t and daily mail analysis which sinks like a trace.

Didn't know you had a first in Economics Viva - perhaps in reality you are more of an expert than Generali but just less willing to stand up and tell everyone you are the expert...
    I think....

I definitely am not an expert michaels. I haven't used much of my first degree at all, use my masters (MBA) all the time, but my economics degree, not really. I also did a lot of modules on things that took my fancy such as developmental economics. Interesting in terms of things like microcredit, but not much use around here! In reality I've forgotten a lot of it. I did rather like the concept of Kondratieff Cycles though, although Gen doesn't like them very much IIRC:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kondratiev_wave

They are kind of hypothetical, though I can see that we could enter a new Kondratieff wave/cycle that's based on the need to move from hydrocarbons if things really get hairy over the next few years. They are more interesting in terms of shifting market shape than predictors of years/periods. I'm tired typing this, so hope it makes sense.

I like your insights michaels, you seem to think pragmatically.

This tends to be the female way. It's been researched/reported many times before that women sit back and men push themselves forward.

If you take two people with identical limited ability of something, one M, one F, and ask them (say at interview) if they're any good at XYZ, the man will wax lyrical about how much of an expert he is, the woman will be more cautious and say they've done it/know it and are keen to build on that knowledge ... hence the bloke will get the job as he's 'proven' to be more able at XYZ than the woman. He'll probably then try to live up to his hype and c0ck things up :)

Today a Dunelm Mill opens just 20 miles away .... never been in one. It's one of the big annoyances about MSE for me that people who want stuff are always advised "try your local...." well, mostly I don't have any "local" anythings. But this Dunelm Mill opens down here today, so in a couple of weeks (once the mad mobs have eased off), I'll be popping in to see what they actually have.

Also, found out about some shop called Hobbycraft, in some other forum, where somebody said "... your local Hobbycraft..." - yet again another great looking shop (online images) that's 200 miles from me.

I do wish the words "your local" could be banned in forums :)

GORGEOUS sunny day again today. I'm Entertainments Manager this week for a visiting family member, else I'd be on a beach.... already dragged them to about 8 this week, so today beaches are off the agenda :(

.. well, mostly I don't have any "local" anythings. :(

Nor me, but there are advantages too, or I thought there were, but yesterday the Jehovah's Witnesses found me, or rather they had my DW trapped at the front door.

I was going to let her sweat it out, but then he came out with the line...."Just look at the news these days, doesn't it make you think....?"

And I'm afraid I just snapped....

"Bloody hell, you JW's have been coming out with that line since I was 16 and daft enough to argue with you! It's a fantastic day out there, so why don't you go out and spread a bit of happiness, instead of ranting on about the news and trying to make everyone guilty and miserable. Go on, clear off!"

Still, it did make me feel better! Daft really, as I know they'll be back. My neighbour in Bath had a better idea; she told them she was a white witch and they always gave her place a very wide berth!:rotfl:

I've always found Viva's posts incredibly informative. I have to say, one of the things I still love about the board is the peopleI have ''met''. Viva is one of those women who inspires me. Makes me feel proud of womanhood.

Aw shucks.... I hope you know I'm blushing now:o. Thanks lir. You're amazing too. In fact most people on here are, that's what keeps me coming back.

My local Dunelm Mill is just 7 miles away, but that will take me 45 minutes each way. Yours is effectively much closer. Even in terms of petrol, my 7 miles of stop-start driving will probably use more fuel. Never been to Dunelm Mill. If you make it, tell me if it's exciting. Went to Lakeland once, very dull.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Don't think the mobs will last 2 weeks; outside MSE its not that famous! When the one near me opened I was underwhelmed. Years ago it seemed to have amazing bargains, now it has got savvy and put up prices, widened ranges and even included a coffee shop doing a poor imitation of Costa.
Also, found out about some shop called Hobbycraft, in some other forum, where somebody said "... your local Hobbycraft..." - yet again another great looking shop (online images) that's 200 miles from me.

My friend is a hobby expert, but she claims that Hobbycraft is expensive and a jack of all trades master of none. Only advantage is you will find what you want, but could get it cheaper by searching a local specialist.
