We bought a Miele ten years ago and have hammered it ever since. It was guaranteed parts & labour for ten years. Total no-brainer.

Mind you, it will probably break down now its guarantee has expired. Even if it did, it would owe us nothing.

But with a record like that, it might be worth spending 15 or even 30 quid on a new door seal.;)

The Bosch has done 10 years now - it has a nice quiet slow wash cycle and so saves resources and does not thrash itself to pieces.
(Two babies worth of nappies killed the Hotpoint in a dozen years - I could have repaired it but the economics did not stack up - the matching drier, essentially a huge plastic drum revolving on pads of PTFE ("Teflon") did about 25 years. only needing new PTFE pads and drive belts plus re pop riveting of a metal door seal, this eventually rusted through and I decided it was time to turn the plastic drum into a planter:D. Those driers that reverse direction frequently are an improvement on the original design.)

[I recently sold a Hotpoint twin tub - the property of my late uncle - for 25 GBP - It dated back to the 1970's but spares were still available - I guess there are some old folks out there who still cannot get along with the complications of a modern front loader:j]

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

My LG is now approx 7 years old and with having disabled children and their bowel disorders/vomiting, you can imagine it get used a fair bit.

I did have a wobble a few months ago when it was peeing water out of the back of the machine and I really thought it had reached the end of its road but it turned out to be a blocked pipe on the outflow of the machine....me and eldest sorted it on our own (Mrs Bodge and son strike again) although eldest's biggest contribution appeared to be "Euuuuwwwwwwwwww" after he had got down into the space behind the washing machine...guess who got the job of actually clearing the blockage.:D
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I've been going through some boxes (from the room I keep pretending isn't real so don't have to face ;))today. Its torture to find thickly lined curtains that don't fit at our windows. The cats are having a ball, climbing in boxes, finding toys they haven't seen since they were kittens.

The cat who loves christmas is also bringing me Christmas decorations all the time..telling me its time to get them out. :) I've hung some from the lintel over the inglenook, along with an ever hopeful early stocking. :)

Ears can feel blocked for two reasons, and they need totally different treatment. When ears feel blocked, it seems that they are blocked from the outside, which is why we suspect wax. If they're really blocked with wax, then syringing or olive oil is the way to go, to remove the wax from the ear canal - ie between the ear drum and the outer ear. Olive oil does really work IF wax is the problem.

However, frequently, when ears feel blocked, the outer ear isn't blocked at all. If the eustacian tube is blocked (the tube from the back of the throat to the inner ear) then the air pressure in the inner ear won't be able to equalise with the pressure outside your body. This creates a pressure difference between the inside and outside of your eardrum, which stretches it and stops it vibrating properly. Because your eardrum can't vibrate properly, you can't hear well, and you get the sensation that your ear is blocked. This is why ears feel blocked when you are going up or down in aircraft, or even just driving up or down large hills. Swallowing opens the eustacian tube, allowing the pressure to equalise and relieving the blocked feeling.

If your eustacian tubes are blocked by gunk at the back of the throat, then your ears will feel blocked, but olive oil will achieve nothing, because it only goes into the ear canal on the other side of the eardrum from where the blockage actually is. Swallowing doesn't help either, because although it opens the bottom of the tube, the tube is still blocked by gunk further up. Treat this with anything that will unblock your nose and throat - steam is good, inhaled things like Olbas are good, decongestant tablets are good, things to suck like fisherman's friend are good, a combination of all of those is best. Also, if you have only one blocked ear, then whenever you are lying down, lie with the bad ear upwards - once the other treatments have loosened the gunk, gravity should then help it drain back out of your eustacian tube and into your throat, where you can harmlessly swallow it.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Steam has helped: almost back to normal. I DID think it was wax...and have never had it suggested that it was anything else but initself this is quite worrying, with a history of Bell'sPalsy and trigeminal nerve issues .... (infection is what perforated the eardrum before with one f the Bells Palsy episodes, but its the other ear this time) now I know to be more alert after this: because I don't think I could cope with face droop right now!

DH has arrived home with two jars of yummy things from misskool. chutney and a jelly. They are going to be kept for our festive ham meals (usually boxing day and/or Christmas eve). They look fabulous, and the jelly is simply the most beautiful colour. I love jellies in jars: they always look magical, but homemade ones gifted always seem the most tempting! Thank goodness its not long to wait to try them!

Youngest has just had me in tears....

With his christmas money last year he bought himself a Lego MP3 player, it has been his pride and joy. Unfortunately, he went to play it tonight and somehow the screen has become cracked, so much so he cannot see what is playing etc although it does still play.

Well , he was so so upset, he came up to me and just burst into tears and he has been inconsolable...which made me burst into tears to see him so upset.

Thankfully, after a bit of convincing and consoling, he is now going through the songs and making a list so he can stick it to the back of the MP3.

If he likes Lego, and loud music, he may like this:

Mind you, I'm not responsible if he does....and plays it again, and again, and again! :rotfl:

Try not to worry too much. Gunk in the eustacian tubes doesn't usually mean a bacterial infection any more than every cough is a chest infection. A common cold that bungs up your nose will often bung up the other connected tubes without it meaning anything further. If you were really infected, it would take more than steam to clear it. On the other hand, it's better for you not to have any of it bunged up, so clearing it with steam should not only make you feel better but decrease your risk of infection too.
