I also looked into soap, which gets really complex and has a lot of legislation.
That's a shame. Candles make silly money. I love candles, and get through a few scented ones (and being as tight as a bottletop buy wicks and melt down all the spare wax to reburn them....).
I find it hard to find scented candles I like because it seems huge numbers of them smell very synthetic, smell vaguely of B.O., smell nothing like their description-eg why would you buy a candle called ''Beach towel?'' I can assure you I don't want to sniff anyone else's beach towel...nor come to think of it my own...hat next...wet dog? room full of bottoms?- or, smell disgustingly sweet (cakes, biscuits, sweets and goddam awful synthetic vanilla that makes my temples throb). I don't like them to smell temple achingly sweet. I like cleanly floral smells - I particularly love violet, but ''white flower'' types, the real not sweet rosey ones, and I can't think why noone makes an ''orange blossom'' candle. I also like things that smell ''green''. Cut grass, leafy sort of scents.
Then when you find one you like the smell of its some goddam awful colour. what's wrong with white or off white, or beeswax colour?0 -

I think that's totally incorrect. Many commercial websites are based on 'user-provided material', and this is just one more. Martin benefits hugely from the forums. As just one example, many of the bargains shown in his email come from the forums. But the main point of the forums is to increase 'footfall' to the main part of the website.
Of course, Martin could close down the forums tomorrow, but it would make a dent in his business and leave an opening for competitors. By contributing here, you are doing him a favour, not the other way around. I've got nothing against the man, but he is no saint, he has no aspirations to become a saint, and you shouldn't regard him as one.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Been hearing some rumours from the City ...not finance of course, law, that are making us edgy. One of the firms that made DH and a couple of his colleagues a nice offer seems to be having trouble....one of the defectors has come back with the tail between his legs, relieved to be back at DH's firm. It was a hard choice NOT leaving as the money was so very good (he was ofered I think 40k more a year, which was v. hard to turn down) but DH is doing well in this firm, and he didn't really fancy something that in all ways other than money was a sidewards move to somewhere where progression would be slower. It would be a bind if t'other firm have more trouble as its been a strong ''back up'' option in London for DH for the last year. On the other hand, they ar strong in his prefered practise area...so maybe more work coming his firm's way.0

Pastures new, have you ever checked out candle making?
We bought a kit for DS. It's quite easy. I was considering buying some Jo Malone perfume and putting a bit into a regular candle mix to make it cost less than £38 a candle :eek:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I've been thinking about it too....more than just using my old wax, actually making them. I've dipped candles before, but life is too short for me to do that too often, and I've rolled beewax candles, but ones in glasses for the house that smell like I want would be good. I loved one in space nk christmas before last...a rose scented, wooden wicked gel candle...but it was a ridiculous price. I like to smell the diptyque candles...but have never bought one.:o
I burn christmasy candles in the very hottest heat of summer ....thinking middleeastern heat and spice, not christmas .....mainly because I buy a load of 'em half price after christmas. This time of year we're still on cleaner christmassy smells....
I forgot I like orange scents. All year round.
Mainly I use oil burners and essential oils, but I do like a candle. After all...as you can see...its an effort finding the right ones for me!0 -
I guess the reason I suggested candle making is that is looks very easy to do, and if you are the artistic type, combine molds, encaustic painting, and candle making and you could probably beat the bajezus out of 99% of the candles I have seen on the market with three or four weeks work trial effort.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I've just never liked candles. Can't see the point of them - and flames/fire scare me.
As I see it, if I was going to try anything it had to be something that was portable, where stock couldn't get damaged or go off. If I make, say, a bangle and it doesn't sell for 15 years it's still worth the melted down silver and it never goes off. It also wouldn't get damaged if the box were dropped or if it were in a flood or whatever. It also doesn't require any special treatment to store stuff. e.g. if I make 100 bangles I can wrap each one in acid free tissue, in a shoebox and cart it about for 10 years and they'd still be perfect. Try doing that with 100 candles.0 -

I bet he has an iPhone by his bed and the first thing he does each morning, even before scratching his b4lls, is to log onto his affiliate accounts then work out where he's going for lunch.
The content here also gets him gigs like the telly work.
